Ketosis

How many meals do you guys eat a day? Do you try to maintain a certian time frame between each?

Pork Rinds are ok. Check the label though, some of the seasonings they use will have carbs so not all Pork Rinds are the same.

We will grind them in the food processor and use them like bread crumbs for things like meatloaf.

I m doing 3 to 4 meals. I wake up anywhere from 5am to 730am. I do most workouts prior to my first meal. First meal is usually 3hrs or so after I wake up Last meal is usually a couple hrs before bed. Usually around 8pm

None of this is set in stone.

Wow, just broke under 200 this morning. First time under 200 in possibly 15 years, the last time I can remember was right before my oldest was born and I had time to lift and ride my bike.

I've added the bulletproof coffee to my breakfast. 1 Tb of coconut oil or butter, or both if you really want it. Not bad. Easy way to bump the fat up. We did all of our shopping this week with the diet in mind. When you take away the pre made stuff, we spent about the same and got better food.

Oh, and I forgot to add... I think that my cognitive levels have actually improved as well. It actually feels like I'm smarter than I was off of the diet. Weird.

According to the sites I'm reading increased metal acuity is a symptom of the diet working. I can feel it come and go some, but it's early for us. I still get a little fuzzy and usually knock down an electrolyte drink and it seems to help.

I'm still eating 3 meals and a snack after work. Breakfast is probably bigger, lunch has gotten quite small, dinner is usually smaller than used to be. Snack is 1 oz almonds and maybe 1 oz cheese after or at work. My schedule kind of dictates things so times are the same. I have a pretty physical job, it's not odd for me to walk several miles a night at work. So fasting might come later, but it's doubtful. Not sure I could make it through work if I missed a meal completely so I'm just shrinking lunch for now.

This is helpful for those wanting to get started. Electrolytes are extremely important. The Keto Flu got me bad in the beginning and was avoidable.
Potassium Chloride
Magnesium Citrate
Sodium

I also drink about a gallon of water a day.

@MadMardigan IIRC mention the MIO water additive. We have started using that. As mentioned I need electrolytes at work, so it helps. I was using Gatorade and it has too much sugar in it. The MIO has stevia which I don't really like but it's better than the sugar. If I start feeling fuzzy I'll make a glass.

Low sodium beef or chicken Bullion cubes in a cup of hot water works for a good electrolyte rush. 15-20 mins later you will start feeling much better. The low sodium stuff has salt and potassium. Pickle juice is also good.

Mio is awesome, I drink way more water because of it. Gives you the flavor to break up monotony of the daily grind.

Things like Orbit gum use Sugar Alcohol, which can't be absorbed by most people and doesn't count. Any of the adult targeted gums are ok. And Altiod smalls.

Though chewing gum can trigger insulin production.

I use the True Lemon products...maybe only 3 carbs per serving...and my doc told me the lemon will help keep away kidney stones. It sells in Walmart...couple bucks for 10 packets. I'll put an amazon link here for reference.

What's the dairy deal with keto? Is it dairy free like primal or more like atkins/low-carb where the low sugar/sugar free dairy like cheese and cream are good to go?

I do lot's of cheese and was doing heavy whipping cream in my coffee. I switched to coconut oil in the coffee. More fat, less carbs. But milk has some sugar in it. Staying away from the milk until I hit my goal. Then I might add a little.

This is the site I use most.

I am doing a combo of keto + paleo requirements.

Dairy is my cheat. - Kefir, Kerrygold cheese...omg yessssss. I am going hard for 4wks, and then re-evaluate. I may turn to paleo here soon. Idk if the die-hard 25g and under requirements are necessary for me. I workout hard, train hard, bust ass hard. I also drink more whiskey than I should so IDK.

I want to try this hydrolyzed collagen protein stuff. my joins are sucking since I hit 27yo. (30 now)

Everyone's body reacts to carbs differently. Lifting allows for more carbs.

Going to start a 30-day Keto plan with the ol' lady beginning of the week... Dunno about the lack of dairy, but I can manage most anything for a month. Guess I'll push through and go from there...

I often hear "I'm fat and I want to do the keto diet sheepdog! But I love pizza and I just can't see myself not eating it!"

Gentlemen, I give you fat head pizza.

I made it tonight for dinner.... Omg it's friggin good. So good that I felt guilty like we were cheating. Super easy to make too. Cream cheese, almond flour, mozzarella cheese and an egg for the crust.

I gotta try this. Do you have a guide or recipe you used?

I made this last night. I did it much thicker than I should have. I am going to use the rest of the almond flour today to do a thin crust style. Either way it came out better than I thought it would. I only used a small amount of sauce. I used a full lb of pork sausage for my topping.

I don't find that butter in the tomato sauce to really be necessary. Could probably cut out a fair amount of ingredients.

I have a pizza tray that made flattening the dough very easy. Just kind of took the shape of the pan. I used avocado oil instead of olive oil.

I put mine down on parchment paper, flattened it out and then placed another layer of parchment paper over it and rolled it thin with a roller. I had to sprinkle the "dough" with some additional almond flour to keep it from sticking to the top paper. I removed the top layer of paper and placed the rest on a cookie sheet and baked it. It gave me a really thin crust which was about perfect.

The butter in the recipe adds more fat, which is a good thing (at least for me) because it is so hard to get enough. But I didn't add butter to the sauce.

The trick with the sauce is to find one without any sugar. I found one at Harris Teeter that I liked and spread it on thin.

Pictures below of my second one that I did...

Was it just the no sugar added sauce? I got some of that. It was like 2g carb per serving or something. I probably only used 4oz on the entire pizza.

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS. I've gained 5 pounds this week, reading this makes me feel better.

In addition to the FatHead pizza, making a bacon weave, baking it and draining the grease off also makes a very awesome pizza crust.

How does the almond flour taste? Any noticeable difference in flavor from regular flour? Have not gotten any but planning on it.

Between Oral steroids for a back injury, a high stress office job, and entirely too much beer I had gained 60 lbs. 60 lbs! In three years time....

I started a Keto diet on March 3rd and I was at 233 lbs. I weighed my self this morning and I am down to 212. My work uniform that I could barely fit into anymore is now falling off of me, my belt is on the tightest notch, and my favorite cargo shorts now require a cinched down belt to keep them on.

I posted the above last Tuesday, today I got on the scale and am now down to 209lbs! I still have quite a ways to go, but it is nice to see the lbs melt away.

I was having trouble getting enough fat in my diet so I went to melting Kerrygold unsalted butter in my coffee in the mornings and in chamomile tea in the evenings after dinner. Seems to be working, as I was having a bit of a stall prior to that.

My wife cooks about the best fried chicken on the planet. Early on we were trying to come up with ideas for the flour breading. She ended up just seasoning it and frying it with no breading and I swear I like it even better.

My point being that instead of finding alternatives, maybe less is better.

Today at lunch my wife packed me some leftover grilled ham, well my boss said he was smoking Kielbasa and thought of me and brought me two nice sized pieces. (Polish decent) Man I was stuffed and swear I had the meat sweats.....

Tip: "Fold Outs" for sammiches and burger buns. We get them at either Wally World or Harris Teeter, can't remember. Just be careful, there are a few varieties and not all are low carb.

In any event, make sure they fit your macros.

You can also get Lavache and St. Joseph's bread at those places...low carb, high fiber, bump in protein....

My wife has been called n a similar diet for over 4 months! It's a PITA to cook for her, but I've got to admit, the results are great!!! She looks like a million bucks!! Feels pretty good too! I've got to do something. I stopped working out when I retired from the Army and I now feel like shit wrapped up in a plastic sack!

I'm good. Taking my supps... Just tired from lower calorie intake and breaking from carbs again... and Coke zero... and coffee...
