Just picked my car up, with a brand new un. 2012 Kia Optima 2.0 turbo. Bought the car in June of this year, with 151000 miles. Last week, going down I-77 coming back from meeting a forum member, car goes into limp mode, and a flashing cel. Code was p1326, knock detection sensor. I pulled over, scanned, and cleared so I could have some power to get out into traffic. Took it to Kia last Monday, they scanned and assessed on Tuesday, and called me that afternoon with a all clear from Kia Corporate to replace motor under recall. I picked up a free rental car Tuesday after work, and got a call today that the car was ready, exactly seven days in to out. Replaced long block and intake. As much of an inconvenience as it could have been, I have to say, I'm impressed. I'm the third owner, and the new motor probably cost about the same as I paid for the car, lol. Other than that, the car is in very good shape. @Mike Overlay just put a new turbo on a couple months ago for me, so I should be good for awhile.

Awesome. KIA has really stepped up their game in the last few years.

They have thinking hard on a 2020 Telluride

Yeah man, me too. When I called to set the appointment, guy asked if I could hear a rod knocking. I told him it sounded like an angry woodpecker trying to get out, lol. What's crazy, as it had not been knocking at all, then boom, here I am.

The most miles I've read about was a dude on the Optima forums, got his replaced @ 198000. Pretty awesome to do at those miles.

Same thing happened to mine earlier this year. 2012 Optima SX with 181,000+ miles on it. Started knocking while my wife was driving it, she pulled over and called the dealership. They towed it in and when they pulled it in the garage, they heard the knocking and immediately called me to say the engine would be replaced. Got it back within a week good as (better than) new.
I will say, though, it is not a new engine. It is a remanufactured engine, which could be considered new I suppose.
Either way, like you I’m impressed with Kia’s CS.

Lot better then my coworker with his Toyota, he had the water pump explode while on I-40 70+ MPH, engine seized,
had it towed to dealership and he had an 'extended warranty'. Warranty company said it was his fault.
No trace of the water pump or the housing.
It was third party POS warranty, Fred Anderson in Raleigh refunded him what he paid for the warranty.

What salesmen refer to as an extended warranty is an extended service plan. Not the same as an extension of the factory warranty but the way they sell it that's what you think you're buying.

Wife and I bought our daughter a CPO '15 Kia Optima when she turned 16 with full knowledge of the pending class action lawsuit Hyundia/Kia were in due to premature engine failures secondary to leftover metal shavings in the block from the machining processes. We negotiated in a factory extended warranty on top of the CPO warranty in to the deal and have full faith that should anything happen to the motor, Kia will take care of it. Since owning the car, we've had a "service needed" notice from Kia regarding the motor where the ECU would be updated for a knock sensor. If I remember correctly, by doing the ECU update, this gave us a "lifetime" warranty on the motor. Kudos to Kia for stepping up!!!!
