Yup, last match of 2017 at Allison Woods near Statesville-
Smoothbore match. I was shooting my (new to me) 1842 Harpers cut down. I've got a decent load for it that will group really, really well and I shot a really really good group on the first event, just unfortunately not on top of a target. Second event, tried to get the fung into schwey and got skunked. Got it wired on the third event and got 4 for 4 shots on clay pigeons (and yes, it was with 69cal round ball not #6). Done no testing at 50yds and it showed. Still had a great time.
And the MONEY SHOT!
10lb Pack Parrott. Yes, it's full size and bore of about 3+inches. Even with 6oz of cannon grade, the concussion is stiff. I was working the gun at position #2 and had to worm and charge the gun. And I did switch jobs with this guy and got to touch it off once. We were using a linstock instead of a friction primer both for cost and accuracy. Round is a 5lb minie ball type of projectile and quite accurate once it's dialed in. Targets were 6in tiles at 100yds and a 4in bull on a sheet of drywall. At our Nationals, the artillery match has all types of Civil War artillery being shot for score with the largest last Nats was a 30lb Parrott seige gun. Probably the coolest artillery piece there was a breech loading Whitworth cannon. Lots of howitzers, mortars and the usual 3in Ord Rifles and 12lbers.
