Just got back into reloading and come to find out ? MY favorite cast bullet supplier, Dardas, has closed up shop.. Anyone have any suggestions for a hard cast lead manufacture for 45 ACP 200 semi wad cutters for a good price??

What??? When did that happen?

How many are you looking to buy?

The word for a while was that when he turned 65 he was retiring. He turns 65 this year, and put his business up for sale last year.

I know some guys that shoot the Blue and they like them.. Me, I'm not so sure about them, they do cost more.. The newer hard cast plain lead nowadays does not lead up the barrel like it used to 30 years ago. I don't see the reason to spend the extra money for a coated head..Appreciate your suggestion tho..

I'm a fan of Acme bullets, excellent quality, fast shipping, and several 10% off discount codes floating around the interwebs makes them one of the cheapest to boot.

Next choice for me is ibejiheads, very good quality and more sizing options.

From what I have been reading, first I want to thank you for your post, is that there are many advantages of using the coated bullets as compared to bare back lead with lube..The coated bullets can be used in high velocity rounds. They also produce less smoke and are OK for indoor shooting..But, In my situation? Im shooting low velocity 800-900 FPS and since Im shooting outdoors? Im not all the concerned with smoke or indoor range restrictions. Appreciate your response, but in my situation? I think the standard lead hard cast heads and save myself some hard earned $. Once again,, Thank you for bringing up the topic..

Guess I was wrong when I thought that the coated heads were quite a bit more expensive then just plain lead? They are just about the same price, so I'm going to give them a try..Maybe what sold me was something that I read , that they can actually be more accurate due to more surface area contacting the rifleing since they don't have a lube groove cut into them.. I need all the help I can get with my 1911.

That "more accurate" because of not having a lube groove is very subjective to the bullet and each individual barrel.
I have grooveless molds and traditional grooved molds and the accuracy for each bullet changes for each of my guns. And I'm talking same caliber, same mold design,...one mold simply has no grooves cut in. I cannot tell you why this is, only that I and others have tested it extensively and found this to be true. Currently my Shadow 2's like a grooved bullet better than one without. My Glocks like the grooveless better.
I'm talking sheer accuracy here; the grooveless bullet is plenty accurate...just not as much as the grooved ones with those guns.

I have found this to be less pronounced with the Blue bullets and that is why i recommend them to others. If I didn't cast, I'd buy Blue Bullets.

It appears maybe Blue Bullets is using Hi-Tec coating so I am curious to the cost compared to Acme? I bought 2000 of .45 200gr coated LSWC for $190 shipped with discount. Are you getting a better discount when you group buy?

Its not Hi Tek, its a polymer based coating.

$.084/per
