Lead Star Arms

I don't own anything made by them, and I'm having a really hard time finding any real reviews that aren't bought.

That being said, apparently (allegedly), they're a subsidiary of PSA but not actively managed by PSA.

The biggest criticism I'm seeing is that they're "gimmicky" and mediocre build quality - but these criticisms are being levied by people who probably don't have any first-hand experience, either. They're the same people who think the only "real" AR-15 is an expensive, boutique rifle, so I'd take those comments with a grain of salt.

Parts-wise, that rifle has a lot of nice things (at least on paper). It has a black nitride-coated barrel and BCG. The barrel isn't CHF, but that practically doesn't matter for what that rifle is designed.

$879 is an okay price, sight-unseen, but as always Caveat Emptor.

Today I learned something!

I know a ton of folks have nitrided BCG's and run them with success. Not bashing them at all... Just pointing out the truth when it comes to the metallurgy. The M4 TDP ( Technical Data Package ) states the heat treat sequence for the 8620 carrier. Nitriding process sequence ( hight temp salt bath ) temps exceed the BCG process by a couple hundred degrees.

+1 on the competition comment. I've seen several PCCs that ran great. I don't know anything about their 223 rifles.

As far as PSA - they were recently bought by PSA. From what I understand PSA is mainly just involved with helping distribution.

@Studentofthegun has a LS 9mm PCC.

It's been rode hard, put away wet, and passed around like a cheap hooker. If guns could be sluts, it'd be SOTG's blue Leadstar PCC.

This is accurate. Lol

It has always functioned for me. Once in a great while I’ll actually clean it. Well, once in a while I intend to clean it but then get lazy. It eats reloads and everything else just fine.

Put a BSF Barrel in it to make it lighter. They make good stuff and the company is easy to deal with.

But yeah that rifle is a hooker. Been shot by more UNC college kids than you can shake a stick at. And other various youngins. Plus a bunch of other random people.

I've even had my greasy hands on it!

Finally got the rifle. I'm not impressed.

First thing I did was weigh it. Lead Star says it weighs 5.4 lbs. Mine was 6.69 lbs.

I'm going to shoot it this week, but it's a letdown so far.

Dang, wth?
Does it have wrong barrel profile or something?

Sorry guys and girls I had a brain fart. I didn't pay attention to the fact that I weighed it with my Romeo5.

Here it is without.

That's a bit closer. Still not 5.5 lbs though. The handguard feels big and clunky to me. I guess for what it is it's not bad.

Looks different than the LS’s I have handled, which were skeletonized.

6lbs not bad. But I’d be mad about weight.

Specs say m16 BCG, that's extra weight for sure. You could lose that, just swap for AR-15. It may have a heavy buffer since no AGB.
It looks like a regular carbine buffer. That's another thing I don't like, the buffer and spring rattle and make noise when holding the gun. It's a real rattle trap.

I figure I can replace the bcg and the handguard to get it a lot lighter but they advertise this a a "no upgrade" rifle. Meaning they use top-o-the line parts so I won't need to swap anything out.

Oh yea, they also put a heavy trigger in it. It's like a 6 or 7 pound pull. I'm used to CMC 3.5 lb triggers.
