Lee Marvin USMC - 20+ D Days

Very cool. Just read about Charles Bronson in the USAF, was a gunner in B29. Interesting in that the gunners in B29's used "computers" to sight and shoot the turret guns as they were metal enclosed and fired remotely. He flew 25 missions and was wounded and received a Purple Heart.

Lee Marvin’s uniform in that video doesn’t depict his Navy Commendation with Valor device or his Combat Action Ribbon

Granted I’m only a couple minutes into it so it might come up

I haven't watched yet either, but remember reading an article a few years ago which mentioned that he wore his own medals and ribbons from WWII on his Army uniform in The Big Red One.

BAMF.

I haven't watched it yet to know how old the picture is but it could be because :
The U.S. Navy first authorized the Combat Action Ribbon on 17 February 1969. The Navy ribbon was originally retroactive to March 1961; in 1999 it was made retroactive to 7 December 1941.

Great video. He passed away in 1987 so probably why. Interesting two PUC awards or more for him and his units. Good indication he was in deep poo poo many times and probably ate a lot of dirt jumping those islands.

I was very impressed that he made 20+ landings (my ref to 20+ D-Days) onto Japanese held islands.
