This may be a stupid question...

What is the difference in the #90783 and the #90292 pins? Also, are these hardened steel pins worth it? I decap as a separate process.

I dusted off the reloading equip. and started processing some brass after a year and a half maybe. I'm still shooting reloads from the last time.

Of course I bent a decapping pin. Luckily I had purchased an extra back then.

Also I remembered the small and large primer in 45acp, ugh. Forgot all about that :)

I use my lee universal decapper for 556 & 308 crimped primers and for the occasional times I may accidentally hit berdan primed brass. I treat it rougher than an internet date and its still good to go.
The collet gives before the pin.

If I'm not mistaken part number 90783 is the part number for the die and 90292 is the actual pin. I ordered a 3 pack of pins from www.squirreldaddy.com. Link below. They have aftermarket pins made by a company called VGI that I doubt will ever break. I've popped out hard, and I mean hard military crimped primers and the thing didn't even budge. $16.95 + free shipping for 3. You can find them on ebay also. Definitely worth it IMO.

Ya know I have 3 and I doubt I'll need them all. They'll probably out live me. If you want, PM your address and I can send you one. No charge.

I just ordered from there yesterday...hope it's a good supplier. Mine broke in early July....ups lost the package...I'm still waiting to get back at it.

Squirrel Daddy pins will decap berdan primers! Ask me how I know ;)

Seriously why can't lee make a decapping pin out of something besides recycled trash steel? Oh, then I see the entire die and pin costs $12 lol. That's why I have several

For information sake. I have a replacement pin from Brownells "Lee Universal Decap. Pin 90783" label.

Thank you for the link, that is cheaper than Amazon I do believe.

Myself and I presume a lot of others aren't smart enough to have the collet adjusted correctly to keep the pin from bending before it pushes through the top of the die.

Ya know, I don't like you guys one bit.

Thank you sir.

Since we're talking about decapping pins...

Are these pins below the ones I would need to replace the one on my 91035 (223) sizing die that came with my Pacesetter set should I break one? (Not the universal decapping die) What's this EZ X Expander stuff? Never heard it referred to as an "expander" even though it does expand. I thought they were just called resizing/decapper die pins.

I basically asked the question in my original post, nobody has answered yet. "What is the difference in the #90783 and the #90292 pins?" The universal decapping die pin part number is #90783. Presumably the #90292 is the pin for the the resizing die...?? Just a guess.

You are correct, the 90783 is just the “pin” and 90292 is the entire die.

If I set it loose enough to slip it creeps up with use, if I snug it more it bends/breaks. Squirrel daddy seems good so far.
