Do y’all abide by common decency and reserve the left lane for faster vehicles whilst on 4 lane surface streets? i.e, not the interstate.

I thought I was gonna get to post a vid to World Star when 2 dudes just went at it in front of me. 4 lane major road, but not interstate. Side roads coming in, lights a couple miles apart.

It depends. If traffic is sparse so I know I can move over a block before I’ll be turning left or before my right lane turns into a right turn only lane then I will stay right. If traffic is tight and I have already seen yahoos blocking someone from moving over then I won’t.

essentially, where we live, the non-interstate 4 or 3 lane roads
have a dedicated left turn turn lane at intersections.
HOWEVER, we must get in that LEFT LANE
miles before the actual turn because of the traffic
congestion which we know lies ahead.

Interstate yes, but surface streets? No. Any lane will do. If you're passing me on the right you're speeding so breaking two laws.

Speeding is breaking a law, but I’ve never heard of a law against passing on the right.

I have totaled 3 cars over the years in the right lane of a 4 lane, non-limited access highways, where people have pulled out directly in front of me out of driveways or t-intersection side roads.

If it is 'in town' where there are lots of side streets, businesses, etc., where people can enter the roadway basically anywhere, I will be in the left lane most of the time on these roads, but at the speed limit or slightly above unless conditions dictate otherwise.

I always speed and people are gonna piss me off no matter what they do. Especially if they are driving a Prius.
That’s all thanks.

No law against punching yourself the face either. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

And passing on the right is indeed against the law in many places. Mostly places that have good drivers like Germany.

I drive in the left lane often because of my crew cab long bed truck. The right lane is usually worn out and dips form. It beats me to death! I pull over if someone is behind me going faster. But if someone is in the left lane running under the speed limits, they just need to be executed!

I tend to leave the left lanes open unless I'm passing or if the traffic is light I'll just say where I want to run.

I do wish the NCHP would stake out the construction zones the get the A-holes that refuse to merge . I refuse to let these degenerates in when they get to the front.

God bless the truck drivers who block them.

Any other famous words of wisdom you’d like to share? Oh Gracious One?
Sorry, can you point out which part of my statement you have an issue with?

I think people who camp out in a passing lane for no reason and impede traffic by not following the “slower traffic keep right” are creating a hazardous condition for seemingly no reason. If you need to be in the left lane for whatever reason, sure, by all means but folks who cruise for miles and hinder traffic flow are awful people IMO. I feel the same way about people who don’t get up to highway speed on the on-ramp.

Love your avatar btw

Yous is a common feeling, but it’s the wrong way to handle traffic.

If everyone filled up both lanes all the way to a merge, and then took turns, traffic would flow faster for everyone .

...

It’s called the zipper-merge. It should be taught in every school, and be required knowledge for all drivers.

Zipper merge is the most efficient solution, but North Carolina law (and I think SC law) does not mandate it, and drivers ed classes do not teach it. Some signage encourages the opposite.

With the zipper merge, we would not need the kindly truckers who block those who roar past the line of previously merged cars. I am all for it.

I agree the left lane is for passing in traffic that is moving...all bets are kind of off when it bogs down for construction or accidents or rush hour. More specifically, you shouldn't be cruising on the left if the right is open and you especially shouldn't be riding side by side with the car on the right forever...both pure idiot moves.

I haven't fact checked this link but it follows my understanding.

That is on the list of things it should be legal to drag truckers out of the cab and stone them for.

I see this in action a lot here. We call it ...every one let one. ..works great.

Need to legalize filtering/lane-splitting for motorcycles here.
State wide, it's technically not illegal. There's no law specifically condemning 'lane splitting'..nor any that ok it.
But there are for reckless driving, unsafe lane change, failure to yield, that kind of thing...and that's where they get you.

If you ride a motorcycle, the right lane is the death lane. Never be in that lane unless you're getting on or off the road, and then use your brakes and throttle like you mean it to acquire your safe space as quickly as possible.

Does that logic apply to traffic lights and stop signs? Speeding in a neighborhood?

If I was going to get upset over all the people who speed, pass on the right, and run stop signs, then I'd be upset all the time. I try and mind my own business and appreciate others doing the same. So to answer your question, yes. We already have enough police without the self-appointed LEO types.

It becomes my business when I or my neighbors are almost hit on an all too frequent basis...it has nothing to do with self appointed LEO types. Most of us appreciate it when people don't drive like retards.

Yes.

If I’m in my pickup or a car I try to stay in the right lane unless passing, or if I’m traveling faster than the rest of traffic, whether on surface roads, highway or interstate.

I’m usually 5 mph over the posted limit which you wouldn’t think would have me passing much but there are a massive amount of people who drive 5-10 mph under the limit on surface roads and highways (I include BR interstates like br85 and 40 in that).

Now if I’m driving one of our big trucks I will ride in whichever lane is most convenient to my next turn or merge because most people won’t let me over even if I put my blinker on a mile from where I need to be over a lane.

A great example is taking 311 to Winston. The right lane ends when you merge onto 40 and it’s a heavy traffic area at certain times so my big butt is in the left lane as soon as I can after the high point Main Street exit. That’s about 6-7 miles I’m in the left lane and you’ll have to pass me on the right.
