What are y’all’s thoughts on the leviathan tribe and the guntubers involved? For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, https://www.leviathantribe.com/
Basically it’s a marketing agency that has some of the most popular “guntubers” under its umbrella.( demo ranch,Ak guy, garand thumb, Colton noir) obviously no one should buy a gun just off a YouTube video and nothing beats a personal hands on experience, but I do tend to look up videos if I’m interested in purchasing a firearm I really don’t know a whole lot about. I’m willing to bet these channels are responsible for a large portion of new gun owners today, especially younger people. Are these people just shilling the same products/firearms explicitly for views? I believe so. I tend to look for non “mainstream” opinions now. Just wondering what your thoughts on this is and if it’s been mentioned before I apologize but couldn’t find anything by searching the forum

Wow, that list at the bottom of the page a who's who of the shill world. Almost every 'gun' channel I watch is on there, but fortunately the ones I sorta trust to review guns/gear were not. Whew.

I had no idea there was that level of coordination going on behind the scenes though. Interesting.

i don’t really watch stuff on youtube other than the 5 times i watched hickock or demolition ranch (i actually didn’t see either on that list) or links on this page.

looks like a page to make fun of macho operator doooosh monkeys

i was literally laughing out loud as i scrolled and saw the pics.

the females were intriguing though.

i’m sure everyone there could kill me with their weak hand pinky but it looked like they were wearing halloween costumes 😂

They are like the Shill bosses.
from what I’ve seen they seem to do a pretty good job of acting like an old guy who likes to shoot and talk and a young guy who’s immature and like to do stupid stuff. both of whom have figured out a way to make a living doing what they like. A.k.a. paid infomercials now

Now that I train with Shrek McPhee and joined his "club", I rarely go to YouTube for gun stuff anymore.

Pat McNamara also has a subscription club that does the same thing. I think it's the future. I think gun guys are going to ditch YouTube.

I’m subscribed to DR purely for the entertainment.

I listen to the WeLikeShooting podcast and they have had some bad run-ins. They don't play polite about it
tbh, the WLS guys are kind of jerks... but they very openly don't take sponsorship from people they don't know for products they don't like.
And i finally realized that the one on their cast that i absolutely cannot stand is because he is exactly like me if i would have made 2 different choices in life. he's the part of me i keep locked up come to life.

ava is on there? i thought she died or something...
she's the daughter of DragonMan - dude with the world's largest private gun and military collection museum. They don't get along well, and i think she used to date the guy that runs WLS and the FirearmsRadioNetwork. she's been purged from the network. I believe she's the one they refer to as "she who shall not be named" because they name all the other past females and bring them back sometimes.

Yeah demo is not on there I apologize. Anybody ever thought he is a less interesting FPS Russia?
Anyways, I see that Rob ski (ak operators union) isn’t on there I like his videos. Also 704tactical is good for budget minded things. Is he a member here?

Aaron Cowan isn't on there, thank goodness.

I'm glad I was around for the good days of Guntube. Seems most stuff these days is effectively recycled content and memes.

You had me scrolling through the whole list looking for him because I remembered that he makes a point not to get involved with most groups. He’s friends with most of these guys but not officially part of the group. It was even mentioned on here not too long ago that he’s basically a fudd for not using his platform to explicitly support the 2A. I’m a fan of his, but I rarely watch Demo ranch anymore, mostly his vlog channel, OfftheRanch.

I first learned about Leviathan group when I think Donut posted a video of a trip some of the guys went on. Interesting that this group exists and it’s probably a good thing, all in all. I wonder how much they are able to influence YT on policy issues. Obviously YT is anti and these guys are only a small portion of total views, but I have to imagine they could leverage the group and have at least some say. I also wonder why they don’t all start posting to Rumble as well and make that push.

If Sootch00 want paid enough to pretend to like it, then I ain't buying it. 😤

Edit: Sootch is such a shill that he's on there twice. 😂
Love him or hate him and I agree he does paid reviews.

He was standing shoulder to shoulder with us during the big 2A protest up in Virginia. There weren’t any other big YouTube gun channels there…

I have no issue with these guys using a marketing/branding agency. It’s smart business. Being a smart businessman is not the same as dishonest. They can do honest reviews while still making a buck.

How many of y’all do shitty work just because there’s a paycheck at the end of the week?

At least Nutnfancy and TRexArms weren't on there!!! We can still trust them. Right @Derek8404 ?
NutnFancy isn't advertiser friendly as most of the viewers age out of the commercial's target demographic before finishing the video.

do you mean work a shitty job for a paycheck, or do a shitty job at work?

Do a shitty job AT work. I’ve worked plenty of shitty jobs.

My Meaning, is…..why are we assuming these guys are all “shills” in the pejorative simply because they have a marketing/branding company working for them?

i see plenty of other people doing a shitty job at work. I honestly don't think i have it in me to do that. I see other people that treat the salaried position as a way to work less hours, i see it as always on the clock.

but back on topics... the argument isn't that they have a marketing/branding company working for them, it's that they're working for the company, giving "reviews" that are just paid fluff pieces guaranteed to paint it in the best light.

I think i found the source of a lot of this mess

it kind of blew up around the time this video went up.

Well, I watched Garand Thumb do a review on various types of 9mm self defense ammo a couple of days ago. Yeah, he clowned it up a little, but he told the viewers outright that the review was sponsored by Norma, and he was forthright that the Norma hollow points performed worse that the Federal HST, Speer Gold Dots and Hornady Critical Defense. Just because someone is paid by a sponsor doesn't necessarily mean the review is skewed.

That being said, this is nothing new. When is the last time you saw a bad gun review in American Rifleman, Field and Stream, (I guess they are still around) or any of the other outdoor publications? People were complaining about biased reviews 25 years ago. So, I guess it's like any other advertising. Take it with a grain of salt, do your own research and make up your own mind.

Even though they are all under the same umbrella I can see some difference between the ones I am familiar with. I think honest outlaw and garand thumb seem to be honest, Chad and Eric do their thing, and sootch is like a late night infomercial, etc etc. It is all useful in varying degrees but in the end I typically buy and vet the things that look interesting to me regardless of what Youtube says.

They're just cogs in an advertising machine, so it's going to be assumed that they're being paid to say what the machine wants them to say.

In their case, 'doing a shitty job' would be low audio/video quality, poor script reading, awkward acting, making the product look bad, doing unsafe things ruining the reputation of the channel, etc. They can do an excellent job for their employer and still be shills at the same time.
