Anyone put a lift kit on their F150 (or similar) themselves?

I want to customize my truck a little for some fishing/camping/hunting trips and I'm starting with a lift kit. Only looking to lift it 3-6" so nothing major. Maybe some wider rims and terrain tires for "semi-off road".

Any good brands to go with or bad brands to avoid?

That's what mine is. First I went with leveling kit. Allowed larger tires but rode worse. So I bought and had Installed a superior 4.5 " suspension lift. Ride is better than stock. I just recently ordered the parts and upgraded it to a 6" lift.

With the right wheel offset, a 2" level will clear 35" tires with no rubbing and no trimming or removing crash bars.
There is a difference between inexpensive spacer level lifts and coilovers.
I installed fox coilovers on my 19'. It leveled the front 2" and stock height in the rear with fox shocks to leave a little rake on the truck. Takeoff Raptor beadlock wheels with 315/70/17 BFG KO2's.

What gear ratio does your truck have?

How was your gas mileage with the 4.5” lift?

I have the 4.10 gear ratio. I bought it used but the original owner had ordered the truck from Ford with the upgraded towing package, tow mirrors...

4.10's with the 6 speed trans will be good to go with 35" tires.

Cool. yes, I have the 5.0 V8 with 6-speed

^ That kit with bigger tires and alignment after install. Clears 35's and keeps the trucks center of gravity lower for offroad.

I like 17" wheels for a bigger sidewall. They ride smoother and you can air down more offroad if needed. Most 18" or 20" tires in the 34" to 35" range are load range E which are heavier and ride rougher.

Next you need an exhaust to let that Coyote howl!

Would that same kit be ok with stock 3.31 rear end and 3.5 eco boost? Also how much would it affect gas mileage?

Do you have the 15' - 17' 6 speed or 18' + 10 speed transmission?

17" tires and 6 speed transmission
That kit will be fine with your gears, and if you keep the stock 17" wheels, I would go with a smaller tire around 33" - 34". Something like a 295/70/17. Stock is 32". You will loose around 1-2 mpg, depending on the size and tire weight.

I lost about 1.5 mpg with the 2" level and 315/70/17 KO2 tires. I average around 17 mpg mixed driving. Highway is around 19-20 mpg. Speedo adjusted for bigger tire size via forscan.
2019 5.0 with 10 speed.
