We ordered something from Amazon on Thursday.

It left the Concord Distribution point on Friday for delivery today...I live just south of Concord.

Why in the world did it have to go to Raleigh? Was it a field trip? Sightseeing tour? I could care less about the timing since we ordered this for December.

Undoubtedly it is cheaper to have all the sorting and scanning done at a centralized hub.

Perhaps, but I'm a little disappointed in your lack of imaginative speculation as to the package's motivation for its circuitous route.

Secret mission, I say. Clearly it had "other business" in Raleigh, and the UPS ha-ha order was just an excuse to surreptitiously engage in some likely nefarious shenanigan.

Ok, it wanted to make a booty call.

Voting fraud. It likely did a provisional ballot in Raleigh after already voting in Concord.

I think the packages know they're supposed to be going places, it's what they do, so while they're out and about, they want to see as much as they can! Why not take the "scenic" route when you can, right? (It's not like someone might be really anxious to get the package. Lol.)

You're confusing your anxiousness about getting the package with the UPS desire to make sure you get your money's worth so they route it all over hell's creation to make YOU feel better. Don't you feel that you got your money's worth now??

I've had stuff come straight from the Concord center to my house. Not sure if it was by UPS/FedEx or their homebrew delivery. I was happy to see LaserShip not used by them, but their homebrew delivery leaves much to be desired. I've had packages left in several less than desirable locations like mere feet from my huge covered porch in the rain, leaning against my mailbox post, or just simply onboard the delivery van as it came down my street, slowed, stopped, 3-point turnaround, and set the status as "undeliverable due to apartment gate/access issue." Mind you, I live in a single family house on an open driveway.

id still take ups over fedex and usps any day of the week. i get a metric shit-ton of packages - and ups never gives me problems.

im thoroughly convinced usps and fedex have abandoned drug testing for new hires because they cant keep them and they are obviously high on something other than life.

It's got to be a regional thing. The FedEx drivers around here appear and act way more professional than any of the others. UPS isn't bad, but they're 2nd place to me.

USPS drove me nuts. We used to live in town and the delivery people wouldn't deliver half the time since the package wouldn't fit in the box - with the front porch 30 feet away. I live out in the boonies now and not only did our route carrier stop and introduce herself she even wanted to know where to leave packages, porch or garage.

I love living in the country compared to in-town

Why can't they just send it by covered wagon like they used to? Or Pony Express if it's a rush package?

Hubs are funny things. With USPS if I walk across the street and send a package, or mail from the house, to someone east of me, it goes to Greensboro and usually gets to them the next day. If I drive 4 miles west, the package goes to Asheville and takes an extra day or two.

My fiancé works for usps and has some stories. One of the fill in girls never comes to work then fusses about getting hours, but then still won’t come to work. She says you walk by the girls car and get a contact buzz from the smell of weed smoke.

    As a consumer, I agree.
My experience is the same on the workfront. We used them as our primary carrier but switched to UPS for 2018 and my gosh do they suck!

Let's throw some tin hat theory in to this. :D

Maybe this OPs incident was just incompetence and errors, but a while back we had an interesting situation.

My wife had ordered some canning jars off of Amazon. Then we got notification of shipping from China. That was the first odd thing, from China. They were Ball jars, which are made in the US. Eventually, we got a delivery confirmation in TX. What a screw up we thought. We complained and immediately got a refund, no questions asked. Then we found out others experienced similar problems, never got their product, delivery to some completely distant address in another state. Got their refunds. I thought that was odd. How could you run a business like that? Shipping product to incorrect addresses and then refunding the cost of the product. Then it occurs to us that something was delivered to that address in TX. What is this were some elaborate scheme to smuggle stuff into the country? Are all overseas shipments checked?

I find it interesting that amazon has gotten into their own delivery service in some markets instead of paying for usps, ups or FedEx. They are buying vans and hiring drivers.

Yeah, delivery services are weird. Most of my amazon prime packages came through fed ex out of Old Mill. Two day shipping as promised. Then Fed Ex opened a hub 20 minutes away in Bryson City... now I never get prime shipping in less than three days.....

Package could have fell of the belt or from a cart on the way to the next step in the package journey,
was tossed into the wrong truck at the loading dock.
I had a package I sent via post office priority mail to VA, it left Raleigh and ended up in California,
then two more days back to VA.

A little off topic, but let's talk about them wasting money.
I got a friend, he's a HR guy for UPS in this area.
He was telling me how they had a driver who, while in her mail truck and in the uniform, was facebook live streaming herself driving and going to a cookout...while on the clock. Like, the video showed her eating and bragging about being on the clock etc.

Anyway, they started the process of firing her, but she's union and someone slipped and made ONE small error in the paperwork...six months later, after all was said and done, she got to keep her job and got back pay for those months she didnt even work.

Better than Fudd-Ex, parts shipped from our hub in Charlotte go to Tennessee before they arrive in Ral three days later.
UPS ground arrives the next day by 11, AND they’re union

Ironically, that model, with everything going to TN as the primary hub, is the model no one believed in. But, FedEx put the industry on it's ear with it and built an empire around it.

I nearly fired a secretary for shipping some stuff from one office in Charlotte to another office that was two blocks away in Charlotte ... and FedEx flew the package to Memphis and back before delivering it to the other office (although it was delivered the next day).
