I'm not a wake fan but I don't see how this is embarrassing for them. It's clearly on him alone it didn't even happen on campus.

    Tragic.

    Two important takeaways....

If you are a hothead who escalates innocent misunderstandings to violence, one unlucky punch can turn simple assault into homicide/manslaughter. (Understanding that it doesn't yet look like this is charged as such, it may be....)

The other is that if you are being violently threatened, even absent a weapon, you are potentially under mortal threat. Time to vacate the area or fight like the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark.

I'm looking at it from a hiring standpoint....WF hired a guy who couldn't control his temper enough and caused a man's death.....

Sometimes when you hire someone to do a job, their character and personality should be addressed.

Something tells me that if really put into the situation, many here would react similarly.
It wasn't like he bludgeoned the man to death, he hit him once and the guy had an unlucky fall.

I, also, dont see how this reflects on WF. Again, the guy was trying to get the dead guy (while still alive) off his car/away from his car. He hit him once and the guy fell and hit his head. It sucks, but it happens.

Reminds me of a case where a man (and maybe his wife) were getting onto a public bus, they were being harassed by another guy, the guy was all up on them etc. The man turns around and pushes him, the harasser falls down one step, hits his head and dies. Is the pusher a violent maniac? I dont think so, I think few would say that. He was just trying to get the man away from him.
Just like this, guy was trying to get this drunk guy off his car and hit him once. Under 99.9999% of the time it's a pretty harmless punch with no lasting effects. This time luck wasnt on his side.

Feel for the dead man's family and friends
Feel for the WF coach and his family for the stress they'll have to go through

The impression I got from the article (EVERYONE knows we can trust the press) the guy knocked on the window and got attacked.

Again, we can armchair qb this all day long, but I feel like there are many on here that would confront a man banging on their car window. Some might resort to using a weapon, but I bet there are many that would exit vehicle and might put hands on the guy.
That, it seems, is all he did. One punch. But in a twist of fate, that one punch was all it took to cause a death.

Again, thoughts for all involved. Im sure the coach is going to have a rough few years, if not longer, thinking about what he's done.
And the ones that cared for the dead will have to live without the man.
The guy was partying at his sister's wedding, not some thug.
Just two people who ran into each other at the wrong time.

Here's where grappling (Judo, wrestling, Jujitsu) are a better choice than a head strike. A submission hold isn't a killer.

The .gov should be sued for putting concrete where the drunk and belligerent moron laid his head.

^ That makes as much sense as anything absent having actually been there.

I think we can all picture a scene where a drunk guy is running around acting crazy at 1am pounding on cars. I can also imagine that said drunk dude would cause a confrontation that resulted in a "get off me" punch. Unfortunate that such a punch was part of the drunk dude's continuum that lead to his death.

You can't just insert the punch as the 'start' of the sequence that lead to his death. Get Drunk > Beat on Cars > Act a fool > Get Punched > Fall Down > Hit Head > Die. You can't necessarily ignore steps 1-3 and lay the blame on step 4.

Saw an episode on Cops where a couple of drunks piled into a guys car thinking it was an Uber, and damn near got shot. The driver was carrying and thought he was being carjacked.

That brings up the question of what the guy whose car was getting beat on was thinking was happening? There in lies the whole reasonable force / reasonable response portion. If his actions were such that the proverbial reasonable person would have acted then you really can't fault him.

Edit to add: I kind of see the drunk guy being like the girl who puts on a sleazy outfit, goes to the bar, gets drunk, dances with drunks and gets raped. Was it her fault? No, but stupid choices lead up to it happening.

No reason to hit the guy, must have been looking for the Uber logo.

My wife was waiting in our car for me to get a car part at Advance,
I tap on the window for her to open the driver door for me and
a woman rolled down the window, "oh sorry, wrong car",
she parked closer and I had the wrong car, both were 2009 black malibu
She did not hit me or pull her gun.

Tapping on a window politely is a little different than a drunk running around banging on windows?

35 year old, drinks too much, acts like a fool, gets killed accidentally. I know whose fault this sounds like to me...

Agree but until we see more video we do not know. Why did the guy leave? What was inside his SUV or was it a rental?

If I punched a drunk that was harassing me and he fell back, I'd probably just drive off too. I can't hardly tell anything from the video I've seen. But I don't think the coach was trying to hurt or kill anyone. Being an obnoxious public drunk can be hazardous to your health.

Reports tend to agree he hit him only once ... it’s not like he sat on his chest and continue it or such. While his punch did lead to the guy’s death ... there were quite a few other factors in this and they were not Jone’s doing.

Wonder if he had a lawfully owned handgun in the SUV,
illegal to have in NY City.
Drunk guy may have said something to set him off.
many shops use camera systems, more to this then we know.

There is a whole lot more to this story then we will ever know. The chance of the media ever publishing what comes out at the trail is close to zero, it will be old news.

Did anyone notice that in @HMP 's 1st link in post #14 above, it seems to indicate that the dead dude was the first to throw a punch.....

.......After banging on multiple cars in front of 41-10 29th St., a nearby person heard the commotion and went to confront Szabo, sources said.

Szabo then punched the person in the face, the New York Post reports. That's when Jones approached Szabo and punched him........
