Long story short, yes you can cut lead with a chainsaw.

I only bring this up because it is a marvelous channel of a very knowledgeable and hardworking young man who has an obvious passion for his work.

Edit: for laughs, watch him trying to repair his existing ballast keel by repouring lead. It didn't go so well, hence the chop and completely recast he goes for later on.

It might not have hurt the saw, but i would have bought one of the cheap poulans to use as a "burner" and not subjected my good saw to that.
