Looked here

@Etruett and I were talkin bout this very thing yesterday. We used to sell Blue and Pink and Blak RG .22s for $12.95 if I remember right. This was in 1962-64. We also sold Colts and S&Ws right along side. Our "clientell" bought way more RGs than Colts and S&Ws. The Colts were about $75 and the S&Ws about $65.
At that time if a working man made $40 a week he was Doin IT!

I still have one of the black RG .22s that I took in a trade in the 70's.

I remember in the mid - late 60's i reckon going to Western Auto and you could buy High Standard Supermatics Trophy's for $49.95 IIRC. That was an expensive gun in those days. I knew a fellar in Rochester Kentucky that had better than a pickup truck load of em NIB back in the late 80's. He had a vault in his basement stacked full of every octagon barrel 22 pump ever made. When the old man died I don't ever remember any of those guns coming up on the market. Somebody in his family got a dump truck load of NIB 22 rifles & pistols. And that was his private stash. He has a steel cage in his shop full of used octagon barrels in his gun shop. Old man had an unrivaled collection of pre1950 22's.

$54.88 for the box? Imagine the price of the gun.

Anyone ever have an FIE Buffalo Scout?
I have one with black plastic grips. Bought it from a coworker of my neighbors when I was 15 for $60. Neighbor didn't believe me when I told him my pops didn't care and made pops come over and buy it just to hand it to me. Turns out I would end up owing my life to that little scout.

I had that little scout with me as a trap line dispatch pistol and ran into a self defence situation. Turns out .22LR can stop an attacker. If not for that pistol I am certain me and a friend would have lost our lives that day. Thats why I always say the best self defence gun is the one you have when it is needed.
