It's a buffler gun, 1869 rolling block in 50/70.

Optics? We don't need no stinkin optics. Matthew Quigley, never heard of her.
Long range Soule sight from Lee Shaver with Hadley adjustable aperture.

Front globe with inserts. Crosshairs insert currently in. Note the green spirit level in the globe to help prevent canting.

Now to make up some ammo and head to the range to start load development.

I got on a BPCR tear recently and got this roller from a friend. It needed a decent set of sights and the muzzle recrowned. Another friend of mine who's into rollers hooked me up with a gunsmith in Thomasville who is a real deal gunsmith. He can make them pretty much from scratch right down to threading and slotting his own screws in his builds. Forget anything modern, he don't care about the stuff parts changers work on. One of the guns he showed me when I picked this up was a Remington #5 Rolling Block he made from scratch. Absolutely a work of art.

Ooooh! Ahhh!

Very nice. Looking forward to a range report!

I have already made a set of bench X sticks, gotten the reloading dies, have molds on hand, sizers on hand, now to get some brass. @#$% stuff is on backorder at most of my normal sources. I'll have to do a more detailed search. A drop tube setup is also in construction at the moment in the shop.

IF I can get some brass, a range trip is in order next weekend.

That's the cat's meow, @Dave951 and those sights are perfect on there.

That’s purdy. Wall hanger or chooter?

What's a "wall hanger"? :D

I've already shot this critter. At a range visit I got antsy and just had to send some lead downrange even though there were no sights on it at the time. No other way I know of to fireform some brass for measuring. With no sights, offhand, the 50yd gong got it's world rocked with 5 shots. Trigger is perfect for a roller at about 5-6lbs. Now with sights, I'm itchin to see just what this old gun can do.

Let the fun begin................

I finally was able to get some brass. All the usual suspects were sold out with BO ok. Sinclair had it in stock, go figure. Their main customer base is competition shooters. What I'm trying to understand is the shortage on brass in odd calibers. 50/70 was plentiful a couple weeks ago, now it's hard to find anything. I can understand .223, .308, .45acp, etc, but 50/70??

So the boolits- top left are 525gr Minies, top right is a modified 50/70 boolit that we had molds cut for an experiment in an 1858 Smith. Bottom left is a Lyman 515.
