Hi all,

I'm looking for a good hog hunting spot. I've seen the guided hunt places in Johnston county, but I'm skeptical about some of the google reviews. Anyone know of a good place or can point me in the right direction. I don't mind paying to hunt and don't mind a drive I'm in Raleigh if that helps.

thanks

I've got some family in Florida. Its looking like that the only way to get on some pigs.

...and there is an article in the Agricultural Review this month about how the state is hiring experts to figure out how to get rid of them here in NC because hunting doesn't work.

I got a trapping permit for free. Fortunately we dont have them plentiful in the piedmont. I expect eastern nc will be infested before too long

A local farmer S of Fuquay was telling me about a local gent that clears them from farms.
He goes to Krispy Kreme and gathers stale donuts, a 55 gal steel drum and 3 cinder blocks.
Fills the drum and sets it upside down on the blocks as a feeder. When the hogs come in they're crazed enough most/all of them get dropped because they're focused on donuts.

I've requested to be part of that party, no luck so far.

Last yr we had pics of a single boar on two different occasions in Moore Co. First time we've ever seen one and we've run cameras for 10+ yrs. Eventually they'll be everywhere unfortunately.

I’ve looked into it as a couple friends and I really want to do some hog eradication but there is really next to nothing in NC. Your best bet is SC gamelands or guides.

Tons of the MF's in south GA but they won't come onto MY land, they hang about 30 yards into "safe zone" of the swamp that is protected by law (Federal Land) and nothing I've done will lure them across the line.
I've tried fast food grease, restaurant throw away's and they just rot on the ground.

Sour some corn and put it out. They love that. They also will come to diesel fuel poured on the ground.

I HAVE tried the sour corn with no luck, and have no intentions of pouring diesel on the ground. Mt land backs up a Federal Watershed and I can just see the fines associated with that if it were discovered... You tryin to put me under the jail???

Accidents happen you know. I’ve seen people spill 5 gallons of fuel before filling a tractor up. [emoji6]

Try Texas. Idiots up here still think its a game animal instead of an invasive pest
Lol, us idiots up here used to hunt with dogs unabated, now it's all about secured land and idiots that think they can control the world through poisons and favored friends. Mother nature rules and the hogs and other "pests" will flourish as long as dog hunting is a thing of the past.

The state Wildlife Department has a booth at the state fair (Jim Graham building) on hog infestation. They show a map where the things were reported last year and they are in almost every county in the state. They know what pigs can do, and they just want them killed, pretty much no matter how you do it. The guy I talked to also said some people are treating them like game animals and not shooting the sows, so they will have an ongoing supply of hogs to hunt. DON"T DO THAT!!!!

I think given access hunting would help. Everyone I know that have them on their property or lease want to keep them to themselves. I also agree on the dogging them, run them things out in the open.

I'm really not sure hunting does anything to abate the population based on their frequency of mating and number produced. It's like the Coyotes down there, I may kill 15 to 20 in one weekend and the very next weekend they have been replaced by more.
My best weekend (2 nights) on Yotes is 23 from 3 of the 7 fields I have permission to hunt. It's like there's a never ending supply waiting in the woods.
Hogs haven't come onto my property (I'm all woods, no agriculture) so their not a big concern for me (yet) but the pecan farmer 1/2 mile down the road is eat up and looses a large percentage of his crop every year and he says they shoot them every day, sometimes 2 and 3 per day. He only shoots them as he's cruising around and doesn't hunt at night at all.
Farmers in that area won't even try growing corn or peanuts anymore because of the damage they cause.
