Ok, Im starting to try to make a little insert for a tin that I have - think of an altoids tin, but longer.
I am started to make a holder for a small ratchet and sockets.
Ratchet part is easy - use my scroll saw and carve out the area for it.
BUT, what Im struggling to figure out, is how could I create half-cylinder cut outs for the sockets to lie in?
I dont have the height to stand them up - I'd love to simply use the drill press and drill out some holes.

Ideas???

Sandwich two pieces of wood together and drill out the wood at the joint to fit the sockets.

Then pop the pieces apart and you're set.

Use epoxy or something to ornately fill the ends. All kinds of options there.

For a fishing rod rack I built, I drilled the holes I needed, and then ripped the board in half. I started with a line down the middle and centered the holes on it, then used the rest of line as a guide for the saw. This created two sets of semi circles. You could glue the sets together or space them out if needed to better match the depth of your socket.

Drill holes that match the size and layout of the sockets, then rip that piece down in half.
You'll have semi circles to lay the sockets in

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen!

I am extremely honored to be receiving such an important award . I am earnestly grateful for the recognition I have received for my work, because I am very sure that every other nominee for this award was as capable if not more, of winning this award.

I have faced several challenges on my way here, but each one of them has only strengthened me to make me the person I am today; a thorough professional who knows exactly what he wants; someone who sets his eyes on a goal and does not lose sight of it, unless it is achieved. Winning this award would not have been possible without the inspiration I have received from my seniors and my colleagues, for whom I have the deepest respect, and from whom I have derived the strength to challenge myself and perform better at each stage.

I sincerely thank each one of you for helping me reach a stage where I can proudly hold up this award as a mark of my achievement. I also promise to only get better at my work so that you can see me here for a more such awards.

Thank you!

Possible to use foam? It'd be easier to work with.

Mirac's suggestion would make the most sense. If you want to get away from the wall, just make your block a 1/4" smaller all-around and run a mitered strip around it to make it look clean.

You could get the cheap-o socket holders from Harbor Freight and stick them down inside the box. Sounds like a lot of work for something to hold sockets and ratchets.

It'd be much easier to do it the way I posted...two pieces of wood clamped together, drill down the seem between the two.

No ripping apart afterwards!

Thank yall for the advice/tips, after staring at the sockets a while I started thinking "I know I have some that are shorter."
Sure enough, I do...but not the right sizes.
Tomorrow/this weekend I'll pick up some shorter ones and complete the project with the sockets vertically oriented.
Thanks for looking and giving your 2c!
