My '02 GMC Sierra, 4wd, 5.3L, automatic, 167K miles, has started making some whining noises from the drive train and don't think it is tire noise as it has Michelin LTX radials. Can't determine if it is transmission, rear end, differential or wheel bearing. Does anyone know of a mechanic around the Concord/Kannapolis area, or within about 40 miles, that they trust? I hate to take it to the dealership as they would tell me that it needs probably $20K worth of work.

I’ve used Hampton’s in Huntersville and was pleased. If you have good, fast, and cheap to choose from, these guys are good and cheap but not so fast. It’s a small old school shop.

His brother next door sells suppressors and thermal/NV stuff and is slightly interesting to shoot the crap with.

I have a guy. Text me tomorrow and I'll give you his info. He does side work away from the shop where he works too.

I owe @Mike Overlay 100 beers for the problems he’s diagnosed for me.

Jimmy Hampton. He welded a brake for me for free years ago when I didn’t have any other local options, and I later used him for a couple NFA transfers. He’s good for non-kiosk SS transfers, otherwise his pricing is whacky.

Based on their always full lot, I believe you on the “not so fast” part!

Murrays Auto in Cornelius does good work, H&H auto in Charlotte right off South Blvd did great work on my old clapped out truck.

I got pointed towards Auto Specialties of Lake Norman when I need the timing belt changed on our Pilot. No problems using them for that. They’ve also done our inspections. Did one earlier this week…they opened at 8a, and at 8:06a I was paying my bill and leaving.
