I finally rescued the F-100 that was given to my wife by her grandfather a few years before we got married. Its an old NCDOT work truck with the 223 painted blue and is not a unibody even though its a 63, someone told me that the state ordered them that way.

I got it running but now I want to get rid of this oil bath air cleaner it has. What are my options? Looking for just a regular round air cleaner. But with the carb its got I don't think its possible. I could be wrong so that is my question. My father in law and his dad are also the king's of doing things half way so the current air cleaner is held on by wire wrapped around the intake.

PS do they make a dual carb intake for this motor?

Pictures attached for reference and a few of the whole truck.

I’m no help to the question of the intake but man I love those early 60s f trucks. Interesting they used the late 50s bed on them.

My dad made an intake out of a Budweiser can for a forty year old Snapper mower.

If it works...

See if they make a weber 2 barrel that would fit. You could swap and run a normal air cleaner.

Yea I don't know exactly what year bed is on it but I have been told it was what was on the truck from the factory. I have no doubt the uni bodies made horrible work trucks because any twist would be bound to bend something

My grandfather in law worked for NC dot for decades so I like to think he knows what he is talking about

Yea I need to actually look. Just was wondering if anyone had a solution that didn't involve putting a new carb on it. It runs really well now and if I start replacing the carb then all of a sudden it's got true duals and efi......

But I will look. It's my wife's truck. She says I can do whatever I want to it as long as it stays 3 on the tree...so I got wiggle room lol

I’ll bring beer and a lawn chair.

Somebody has to supervise.

Plus I’m good at getting babies to take naps. You’ll need more help with that than a Budweiser intake.

First nap yesterday.

Measure the card circumference, then drive it down to Napa.
They will have an Air filter/Cleaner to sell you.

Something like this:

^^^ This.

there is supposed to be a stud that screws into the middle of the top of the carb. Usually they are 1/4”-20 thread. it goes into the strap across the carb throat. Your carb may be stripped out, hence the wire.

if ne3ded, it could be retapped to 5/16-18 and you use a larger stud.

NAPA should have everything that you need, or can order it.

Or a 1/4”x20 helicoil if stripped.

See that's what I am looking for.....I figured I would have to get a new carb cause it didn't have the stud. I will go by and find out what I need.

Thanks!

There is supposed to be a piece that straddles the air horn that the air cleaner screws into. Yours is missing:

EDIT:

I believe this is the piece you need.

I will look into this, don't think it will work on the carb I have....looks like I need to just buy a new carb...oh well thank!!!

New carb should be pretty cheap... its probably an autolite 1100. 120 bucks or something remanufactured.

Check the K&N filters web page. They will have something that will attach with a hose clamp if you have trouble finding the missing part.

.

YouTube is a great resource...
Edit...nevermind...different carb...

I like the way you think! But I would prefer an LS motor....
Little brother, I’ll have to consult with Billy on an appropriate punitive action should you ere in such an egregious manner before you are banished to the hereafter, or CSC. Whichever comes first.
