We lost Pablo the carpet shark and Happy the pug about a week apart.

My son was taking care of both and was hit hard, wondering what he did wrong. He felt bad about Pablo, as he was taking care of him for his youngest sister at the time. Then Happy died about a week later and he felt he was doing something wrong.

Pablo was about 5. The kids found him when he was a kit. Ferrets live about 5 to 10 years, so he was hitting middle age. No warning...just passed away in his big old condominium.

Happy, however, was getting up there for a black pug. A month shy of 13. Blind, going gray, had some walking issues off and on, and probably suffered a stroke a month or so ago.

He was one smart dog and truly lived up to his name.

Eric made their little coffins and the girls decorated the lids.

Sorry for your and your family’s loss. It’s never easy.

One of the news programs I heard recently, which dealt with dogs, mentioned that they go through the same life cycle and really do age out, with similar effects, earlier than we do. They didn’t seem to understand why, but recognized the biological pattern was similar, just accelerated for some reason.

It’s always hard to say goodbye to pets. I wish they would live longer.

That is always wrenching. I hope everyone gets through this as peacefully as possible. My condolences .

I hope he can grasp that crap happens and he probably didn’t do anything other than be there when their time came.

He knows. He's not a little kid any more, being in his mid-20s, but the loss hit hard and back-to-back deaths with two critters under his direct care just made him question himself. A natural reaction.

Man that is hard to hear. If he can find any comfort in them passing g under his watch it may be he was the last one they saw and to love on them.

Our last pug died 3 years ago and I am still not over him. I bought my youngest a stuffed pug and he sleeps with him every night. He named him the same.
