I am sorry if this has already been discussed at the old place and I just missed it. In the market for another 22 semi auto pistol. Held both and have to say I like them both and it's going to be a hard choice. Y'all have any experience with one or the other? I've seen a lot of 22s be real finicky about ammo most notably a Sig mosquito. Let me know what your opinion is. Thanks

I have shot most of the new crop of "CHP sized" 22s that have appeared in the last few years, and out od them all the SR22 was chosen due to its quality, reiability and price. My wife took her CHP course with a borrowed Walther P22 and hated the slide mounted safety. It did not like non-copperwashed ammo. The SR22 will eat anything HV that you feed it and fires CCI SV into a 4" group at 20 ft which is pretty good for a 3.5" barrel.

i have no experience with the MP22 or the compact MP22 other than holding, and the ergos on the Ruger still felt better to both my wife and myself.

The Sig Mosquito has a major flaw in its feed ramp angle which makes it about as reliable as a Bryco-Jennings...

I have both. I had the SR22 for a much longer time and just bought the M&P for a suppressor host. I like both, but the SR22 just seems to be a better shooting gun. I can't attest to the finickiness of either because I usually stick to one brand of ammo. CCI mini mags.

If I had to vote, though, I would cast it for the SR22. Make Plinking Great Again!

I was able to make my mosquito run...somewhat.....by polishing the dogsnot out of the ramp, putting a slight chamfer all the way around the chamber and bending the feed lips out on the magazines. It was still nowhere near what the SR22 was, but at least I could enjoy a mag or two before the next hiccup. Before, it took forever just to get through one mag.

Dont forget all the cool things for the SR that comes from Galloway precision. Been meaning to get one of their SS guide rods for a while now....but just havent worn out the plastic one made from a pushpop stick

I have the MP22 and I think it is a great shooter for plinking and having fun. I primarily purchased the MP22 for I knew that I would later be purchasing the full-sized MP9, which I did. The two are very similar in size and how it fits in the hand, though the MP22 does not have changeable back straps like the MP9 and the 9 is much heavier for obvious reasons. When the MP22 first came out (I have the first year production model), the MP22 preferred higher velocity ammo (1250+ fps) though other owners on various forums had no issues running any velocity of ammo they fed it. My experience has mostly been with high velocity ammo and very little with lower velocity lead. I did buy bulk Fed ammo one time to try it out and I experienced some issues with stove-piping, FTE and FT Feed. Ever since, I have only fed high velocity ammo through it and my MP22 runs like a champ. I have not yet tried again to run anything slower than 1250fps

I have no experience with the SR22 though I looked at it when I was shopping the MP22. To me, the SR22 felt child-like small in my hands. I think it would be great for shooters with smaller hands, just not for me. I also heard that the SR22 will function well with any type of ammo it is fed, again no personal experience on my part, just repeating what I've read on other forums.

Best of luck on your search for a new 22!!

Thanks for the info guys. I will update when I figure out which one I'm going to get.

I'm an M&P shooter and have been since 2010 thus I favor the M&P. There are two models available. The M&P22 is full sized and made by Walther. The M&P 22 Compact is 3/4 size and is made in house by S&W. I believe the Compact version is phasing out the full size model made by Walther and that production is being stopped or has been stopped already. I have the M&P Compact and it is awesome!! The trigger is the same one they use in the M&P Shield and it is roughly Shield sized. Although I have some classic Ruger rimfire pistols I have not been impressed with recent production and models.

I have both of these pistols as well, both run good with all .22 ammo. Ive had the M&P longer, pretty much just got the SR22 for my young son to shoot as he could get a much better grip on it compared to the M&P. I put a Dawson Precision front fiber optic sight on the M&P and personally enjoy shooting it more as it fits my hand much better than the Ruger. I dont really see one being much better than the other accuracy wise or reliability wise either. Hard to go wrong with either.

The Walther P22 I have took about 200 rounds for a break in from jams, but now runs great on any ammo. Similar to a Ruger MKIII I had which had a similar break in period from jams. I owned an SR22, but sold it to my daughter in law. It was a great gun, but I bought it used and well broken in. the Walther is priced about $75 less than the SR22 and the M&P.

There's a nice SR22 with blue frame on Kentucky Gun for $450. It's probably a seasonal look for Christmas gifts to kids as those in black run about $335.

Have had both, plus several others and the SR22 is by far my favorite. Eats anything and just plain fun to shoot.

I want a SR22...but have a ton of mags for my 22/45 which makes me want to get another 22/45! Lol

Well i bit the bullet and pulled the trigger this morning. Picked up a sr22 3.5" black/tungsten with fiber optic front sight. I would post a pic but I can't from my phone. Going to shoot it this evening and then go skirl hunting.

I am sure you will be happy with it. I have both the M&P and the SR22,both with threaded barrels. The SR22 I think is the best.Shoots whatever I feed it with no problems.Works great suppressed.

After shooting it the first time it is high and left bad. Will adjust the sights next time I go and see what it shoots like then. Like the feel of the gun and it fits my sons hand good

Having experience with the M&P, the Walther and the SR...the SR is the most well received by shooters, especially the new ones.
Of the three, the SR22 generally performs best. It cycles all the ammo, It's ambidextrous, has good balance, it's accurate, works fine dirty, and fits 90% of hands.
It is my go-to when teaching semi-auto's to new shooters. Because of it's no worries performance, it makes shooting fun. Critical with new shooters, as un-fun is the #1 reason they don't wanna keep playing.
Two things to pay attention to; the rear sight can drift out of alignment. Pull it off, dab blue locktite in the dovetail. Stays put after that.
Limp wristing can cause failure to feed problems. First thing to check before going after ammo and tearing the gun apart.

Having favored magnum revolvers just about all my life, I find myself playing with the SR all the time. Consistent quarter size groups from 20 feet offhanded...what's not to like? :)

Have the M&P 22 that is a suppressor host. Have mostly M&Ps so that made the most sense. I've yet clean it since I got it and it runs fine. Occasionally get a light strike on the 1st round for some reason but after that runs like a sewing machine.

I had a Mosquito for a while and traded it away, it was finniky about ammo and being clean and I swear the chamber was tight, it would leave the fired case and dive the next round into the back of it. The guy I traded it to replaced the extractor and says it runs fine now. It was also the only DA/SA that I had, so it made the most sense to have something that had a similar manual of arms.

I have the Ruger and I love it. I have not shot the M&P, but the Walther I have shot had several FTE's, while the Ruger ran flawless with the same ammo.

I noticed yesterday while messing with the gun that the rear sight was off to one side. Found that I can push it either way with my thumb in the dovetail. May have to try your locktite trick.

I used to have a Mosquito; it worked great for me. REALLY accurate with that pistol; no issues with Mini-Maggs. I sold it because I got bored with it and don't have Sigs.

Between the SR22 and the M&P Compact: I strongly considered the SR22 based on all the positive reviews out there about it. I already have a Shield, and wanted a 22 for my wife for her to use as a trainer (which I can shoot some too :D ). Well, the M&P is in the same line, nearly the same frame/feel/size. What clinched it for me, though, was the SR22 "backwards" safety. Up to fire, down for safe. All my pistols with frame-mounted safety are up for safe, down to fire. The SR22 mucks up my muscle memory because I shoot 1911s a lot, and it's also backwards from the Shield safety. It's backwards from everything else I have. Nope nope nope. So, for me, it didn't matter how the Ruger felt or shot.

I will say I love the Compact. I've only put a few hundred rounds through it, but it even eats Remingtons...

I bought the SR22 when it first come out and continue to be amazed at how that thing will eat any crappy ammo I put in it. I taught my son to shoot on that gun and don't think there's a better one for it. My son shoots that thing at IPDA Bug matches. One match, I told him to go get some .22 ammo out of the closet. He grabbed a box of...I think...CCI .22 long...not long rifle. I had that box just for shooting in revolvers. It doesn't have the power to cycle any other .22 semiauto I have. In the SR22, it would fire 2 out of 3 times and recycle. I thought that was amazing. Didn't take long to figure out I had the wrong ammo. But it will shoot garbage. I consider it the Beagle puppy of the gun world.

I also picked up an SR22 this week. Plan to try it out on my weekly Sunday afternoon range trip.

My son has an SR22, about two years old. It will eat all ammo except Federal UltraMatch lrn. I've heard some of the Fed Auto Match in some lots is loaded light. The Walther P22 I have has some hiccups on the Auto Match.

The large grip on my son's SR22 did not accept the mag very well. I had to show him how to shave the rubber back at the base.

My good friend has a nice range.

Well after getting the sight straightened out and a couple of hundred rounds through it I can say that I love this little gun. Now I'm going to have to spend some more money and get a threaded barrel and a suppressor for it. ;)

And the thing has eaten every different kind of ammo I have thrown in it. Even eats thunderbolts like they're candy.
