Just wanted some opinions on an M&P 9c vs a G19 for edc. I currently have a G19, would like to go a little bit smaller. I’ve tried a G26 but didn’t care for it, like the G19 better. It’s not a Glock vs S&W thing, just a size issue. I’d appreciate any opinions you guys would have on the subject.

If you can conceal a g26, you should be able to conceal a g19. I’d stick with the g19 personally. I tried to make the g26 work for a while and finally just gave up. That said, the g26 does conceal ever so slightly better. I have g19s and - g43 for when the 19s are too big. I don’t carry that often anymore, though. If I feel the need to carry, it’s most often my g43. I’m a big fan of the g43 with the +1 Taran Tactical baseplates, just enough real estate for a full grip and 7 + 1.

I have no knowledge of the M&Pc 1.0, but I did go through a M&P Full size phase. They’re good guns but I prefer Glocks for sure. Now, I’ve held an M&P 2.0 full size and loved the way it felt in hand and the new texturing. I haven’t held a 2.0c in hand cause I’d more than likely buy it on the spot. Then, I’d need a backup for it and many many magazines. I’m too invested in the G19 to go down that road.

I have a similar arrangement, but both mine are 40's...G23 and M&P 40.
The S&W definately has better ergonomics. The mags drop a little easier. The sights are a bit better.
But, I shoot the Glock better. Go figure.
I've had no problem of any kind from either gun. I don't think there's a reliability argument one way or the other.
But just to throw a stick in the wheel, the Walther feels better and shoots better than either the Smith or the Glock. For small I favor the LC9S. The trigger is great out of the box. I don't like XD's, grip safety..ugh.. but that XD45 shoots very well. But I think it only holds 2 and a-half bullets.

I don't know that I'd put up a contender against that G19. Something about that particular model, I've seen it sway hard core never-glockers to the dark side.

I’ve had the full size M&P’s and really liked them, but I just have so much Glock stuff. I’m looking at the M&P c because it hits the sweet spot between the 19 and the 26. I shoot the full size M&P better than my 17, but again I have holsters and lots of extra mags for it so it’s hard to move away from Glock.

I love the glock 19 but the M&P 9c is my choice over the two. I may have gotten a one in a million but the one I have is a tack driver. It has never had a jam. It is easier to conceal for me also. It is one gun I will never part with.

Replacing the trigger with an Apex fixes my biggest beef with the M&P.
Glock has a much more consistent natural point of aim in my hand.

Why not have both? You don’t have to move away from Glocks just because you like M&Ps too. I have always been a Glock fan, but recently started getting into M&Ps. Now I have a pile of accessories for both brands and shoot/carry them all.

That is probably the direction I’m headed. Just don’t tell my wife.

I dropped Glocks in favor of the S&W, it just works better for me. I also like the size of the M&Pc too. I keep some full size mags with the X-grip sleeves for fun and backup and let it ride with the short mag for concealment.

The SW9c is more comparable to the G26 sizewise. It has a 3.5 barrel like the 26. iirc the G19 is a 3.9-4.0 barrel and I've always considered it to have bigger hun qualities.

I’ll never drop Glock, because I have too much invested in them in mags and holster, and I just don’t get rid of guns anymore, but I do have to admit, I am growing to like M&Ps more than Glock everyday.

My experience with the M&P 9c...I bought one used a couple of years ago from an LGS. It was a range gun. Countless thousands of rounds before and after I purchased it. A few months ago, the Locking Block/Sear Housing Block Coil Pin broke in two. I pushed the end sticking out back in and kept shooting. Took it over to the gunsmith and he promptly replaced the pin and put in a fresh recoil spring/guide rod. I have never had to clear a jam, and have had one dud round that wouldn't go bang in anything, so not the guns fault. I was shooting it the other day. If it wasn't so fat, I would carry it in the summer. I use an XDs for easier concealment when wearing less clothes.

I have both. Being a 1911 guy and never liking the Glocks (I've shot the ones my cousin has), I heard about how the G19 Gen 4 was so much better than prior models. I handled one at y LGS, and it actually pointed well for me - which no Glcok had ever done previously. So I got it, shot it some, works fine, but I don't love it. Year or two later I handled the new M&P 2.0. That felt SWEET. I have a Shield and my wife has an M&P 22 Compact, so...I got the full size since it was $20 cheaper than the compact. If I could do it again, I'd get the compact, but I don't plan to IWB carry either.

The kicker is, I was going to sell the Glock...and my wife said no. She said, "I want that." <--- That right there is what we call a keeper! :D

Reading the OP, seems to me the issue really is more of clarification on "conceal."

  • the firearm must be effectively invisible: I can never, never, ever, ever print; no, not one little bit (or I'd be fired or ...).
  • the firearm should be generally concealed save for some odd bodily contortion or wardrobe malfunction. Printing or flashing would be uncomfortable, but not a disaster.
  • the firearm should be generally concealed from casual observers, but printing or flashing is not something to be overly concerned with.
  • the firearm should be generally concealed, but only as a courtesy. I frankly don't give a [ ... ] whether I print or flash my firearm (save as potentially a tactical consideration).

And please forgive me should this post raise the "concealed is concealed" zombies from their hibernation.

I find I can't get by with one-gun-fits-all
I can conceal a G19 but sometimes I can't dress around the gun so I need something smaller. Sometimes I can't carry on my waist at all so I need a pocket gun.
I like to think of it in terms of sizes: mouse, medium, regular and have a good option for whichever one I need that day. My choices are P32, S&W shield, G19
I don't think specifics are as important as identifying the niches that fit your day-to-day carry.

I had a full size M&P 9 with Apex FSS that I shot a lot. Bought a stock G19 Gen 4 and shoot it better. Like Friday said, go figure. I do think M&P's have made great strides with the 2.0's

This.

I have had all sizes of Glocks, and I shoot them well.

But the M&P feels nice in hand, shoot well, and with the Apex goodies it's hard to beat.

And you can get them Apexed for less than a Glock stock. My last 2 I bought from guys here on the forum and have $620 in 2 guns, apexed and ready to go. The third I spent a little more, but still less than a Glock.

I got to handle a friend of mines 9c this weekend. I am definitely going to be on the lookout for a used one or two.

Before you all make a decision based on just how the M&P feels in your hand (way better than a Glock) shoot them side by side.

And what I mean by that, is how it feels in your hand is not a predictor of how well you will shoot it.

Not something you can really judge without owning and carrying both. I'd trust my life to either platform if the specific gun proves reliable.

The original compact M&P is significantly smaller than the current 3.6" 2.0 and is smaller than the 19. For carry, it's better but preference is personal.

I like Glocks. I did try a Shield and found that I couldn't shoot it nearly as well as a Glock. I pocket carry a G19 a lot. I just make sure that the front pockets are deep enough on pants and shorts when I buy them. With shorter pockets, it's a G43. With a Fat Boy belt the weight of the G19 is not a problem.

I was able to finally shoot, and subsequently purchase an m&p 9c. Other than ordering an Apex trigger for it, I am very happy with it, conceals well and the size difference from the g19 gives me more options. I also found a g43 at a price I couldn’t resist. I now see why some folks love them. It’s a good shooter, very easy to conceal. Thanks for all the opinions, appreciate them all.

I’ve shot both in the past and by far prefer the M&Pc. It fit my hands far better and I could shoot it more accurately. Although I’ve never been a Glock fan. Personally feel like the G19 has more muzzle flip than similar options out there. I’ve been itching to get my hands on the M&P9c 2.0 since it came out. So far the 2.0 is in the middle of a very long list of weapons i want to buy.

Glocks have a BIG aftermarket following....so u can do or add most anything to a Glock, plus it seems every gunsmith has worked one so ur good to go with someone who can work one one
