I just got a new Macbook Air with the M2 chip. I specifically chose this one over the M1 Pro because it had two USB-C ports in addition to the power connection (the M1 version only has one USB-C available). I assumed that I could connect dual external monitors as I have always done, but I'm annoyed to find out that it only supports one external monitor without buying expensive adapters. Does anyone here possess Macbook skills that might be able to show me a workaround that would avoid me having to spend another $100+ for a DisplayLink adapter? Both USB-C ports work by themselves, but the system will only recognize one monitor. I downloaded the DisplayLink drivers, but that doesn't seem to work either. Thanks for your help.

Sadly, there isn't a workaround. That's the game Apple plays. The adapter is the only way to get 2 external monitors to display.

Weird...the M1 MBP I'm typing this on has 3 USB-C connections (plus the goofy power input). Each of the USB-C will handle power and at least 2 of them handle external monitors. I haven't tried plugging in 3 external monitors.

My desk has 2 monitors plus the laptop screen all running as unique desktops, none of them mirrored.

It also has an HDMI port.

Edit...one of the USB-C ports has a hub connected where I have power and a couple USB drives connected, along with one of the external monitors.

maybe it was a regular M1 Air that I was looking at. My previous work laptop was a MBP and it supported multiple external monitors (not sure which version), so I made an assumption that the dual monitor setup would be supported.
