I recently saw the thread about steel targets and the good prices and I have to say, they are great prices. Ordered two 8" circles late last night and they are already marked shipped. Wow!

So, the range I frequent only has permanent paper holders and a 25, 50 and 100 yard range. Well, you can guess the 25 yard range is almost always busy and I wanted to get my son some shooting time as he's still learning, thus, 50 and 100 can be a bit far.

So today after a trip to Lowe's, about $20 and about an hour I have moveable and configurable for steel or paper target stands.

I made the mounts for the steel both springy and with a downward cant. Don't ask me what degree....i ain't no math major.

The stand bases are one piece and the upright another so I can break them down and into the Jeep they go.

Ready for a range trip for sure!

They look great but I'm guessing you'll be wanting heavier springs. I'm using old Subaru valve springs with mine, they match up pretty well with the springs that come with store bought plate hangers.

Nice! I'd love one of those for my only steel target!
Shepard's hooks work well and they're cheap.

I’ve experimented with all sorts of DIY stands from simple to crazy over engineered...these hooks flipped my world upside down. I pick one up now almost every trip to Home Depot. With different sizes can change the heights...love em.

Ding...ding.....ding....sure is fun ringing steel from 35 yards with a G17.

Looks like my setup has good downward deflection as well. The upright took a couple errant rounds, a 9mm from 35yds will still go completely through a 2x4 width...had a couple misplaced shots.

125gr lead reloads over 3.8gr Bullseye powder with CCI 500 primers.
