I'm slowly but steadily getting my new man cave/gun room/office put together. What are y'all using for storage of magazines? Preferably not in ammo cans as I like to be able to quickly see, count and grab mags for range trips.

Pistol, various rifle in odd shapes, ARs marked in 3 different calibers...

Pics are always fun.

Edit: My current 'solution' is just not aesthetically pleasing and, if you believe my labels, not very reliable.

I may go this route...

Most of mine are organized and stacked in a few of those 27-gallon black and yellow HDX bins (you know you have a collection when you can measure your mags in gallons).

For the range mags that see a lot more use, I have one of these wheeled clear totes that easily rolls out from under my workbench shelving when I need to gear up:

And then I have a pile of these NcStar/VISM soft cases, all of which always hold five loaded mags. Since I mainly shoot AKs, I put 2.5x3.5" flag patches in the exterior ID pouches to easily pair particular guns with their chosen range mags (Romanian flag for the WASR, Russian flag for the VEPR, Israeli flag for the Galil, etc.). Grab a few guns out of the safe, toss them in their designated cases, and off we go.

same deal here. my unlabeled cardboard boxes of gun stuff eventually got brands written on them, and now have mostly transitioned to clear bins on a book shelf with tags saying things like Walther. ruger. keltec. mossberg. mossberg. glock. etc

but more often than not i just throw stuff on top of a box without looking and it inevitably works inside the wrong box.

I use ammo cans...and have a couple designated as "Range Cans". Those contain a variety of ammunition, which I tailor for any given range trip. Plus other things, like magazines, staple gun, tape, basic miscellaneous supplies.

Essentially, everything I need to make a day at the range I can just grab and go.

I have several other ammo cans specifically dedicated to storage of bulk ammo, brass, etc.

Brother P-Touch labels make it clear what's in each. And ammo cans stack neatly all the time, because they're all the same.

I have stored magazines in those plastic fishing lure boxes that have lids and that are see-through. They stack very nicely. I still have several of them with rarely used magazines in them but have moved on to other storage containers for the magazines I use often. I have individual bags with magazine pockets for a bunch of my autoloaders and can keep 8 to 10 magazines in them ready for quick use. Most of my 1911 magazines are in bigger range bags, one for 45 Auto and one for 9mm, that can hold five or six of those magazine sleeves so they can hold around 50 magazines plus several pistols. Those suckers get heavy when all the magazines are loaded. I have AR, AK, and Mini magazines in various dedicated bags, buckets, and boxes. I always carry well-labeled metal military ammo boxes with loaded rifle magazines with me in the truck. You never know these days when you might need a few more rounds quickly.

I will add that I always keep a magazine in the firearms so I will never be unable to find one. Generally they are loaded except when storing a firearm for a long time.

I currently use @Jerzsubbie method on my gun rack (well, AMMO rack)
I like what @Tim did, but it doesnt fit my needs currently as I have A) not many mags and B) not many DIFFERENT mags
But I like it!

What about a filing cabinet and set up the drawers with dividers? Guess it would depend how many you had but could purpose other drawers for other stuff.

Since I’m the opposite of you on A & B, that’s exactly why I like these HF bins. I think I’m up to 8 of them now, just bought 2 more last weekend. They’re cheap, simple, and not so big that I’m digging through a full sized storage tote to find a 10/22 mag, but also big enough to fit a 40rd Pmag.

You got your containers already, but I'd suggest you look into what I use for my containers. Not the HF bins, which Ive looked at and priced, but some from Home Depot which, if I remember correctly, are cheaper and definitely larger.

I use smaller bags for owner manuals and any parts or tools the gun ships with.

I have a 4” wide magnetic strip but has not been screwed to any wall or table. Most of my mags are metal except for Glocks and a few PMags. Right now they are on multiple levels of the house and in shoulder and belts for Portland type situations. Only Glocks and 556 mags have ammo in them except for a one grab by the door gun. 1060 rounds ready for service.

I have pre-loaded backpacks. per gun system. AR, Scorpion, Handgun, etc. with everything I need for that firearm type plus. Each one has range support gear "targets, staples, staple gun, markers, shot clock"

If I bring two gun types to the range, two bags go with me.

Simple and works very well.

these folders were pretty inexpensive:

$6.00 for each folder, free shipping from Ebay

I've got unopened mags stored in a cardboard box, and my open/used mags in a canvas tool bag. Pistol mags I have hanging in a door pouch in my safe. I should probably work out something a bit better organized.

Somewhere I've got a picture of a car like that.

Piled high in front and back seat with piles and piles of magazines and papers. If you stood behind the car you couldn't see into the car through the back glass. If you stood to the side, you could only see all the way through the side windows on the front...and then only partially on the passenger side.

I thought "maybe they're hauling this stuff away".

Nope. Saw it several times over several weeks.

File by pile. I have lots of shelves, and my mags are stacked in piles that are randomly located either on the shelves or on my work surface, and they spontaneously relocate themselves to other coordinates within my office/refuge.

Similar story that I always thought funny. My uncle used to work at Cape Kennedy - head of fuel operations or something . I was like 15 or so when I went to visit. Used to have a couple beers on his way home from work -threw the can in the back seat. When I was there it was up to the arm rests in cans. Never got stopped that I know of. That was a different time. Didn't mean to derail thread. Carry on....
