I got one of these on sale and just need everything but the stock...lol. Beautiful!

What advantages have you seen over the standard stock that comes with the breakdown model?

Stock/grip storage capabilities....Although I did separate/modify the buttplate on the factory take-down stock with a hinge and locking mechanism.

Also, when taken down, the forend/barrel assembly locks into the stock...

Pretty neat about the storage, thought I dont know how much I'd actually use it (I have space on the stock and grip of my Troy 556 rifle...nothing in there lol)

Good looking rifle you got though!

There is also an optic rail that mounts a red dot on the barrel end instead of the receiver. Should help with repeatability of the zero. I have mine set up like that right now. I'll post a picture tonight if I get a chance. I haven't used mine a ton, but it is a big upgrade of the original stock. I keep mine in a back pack with extra 25 round mags and a box of ammo. And 3 koaded mags with the rifle. In case I have an emergency tree rat shooting session or something.

Would accuracy improve that much over the red dot/optic installed on receiver?

Got yours in just a standard backpack or anything special?

Be careful. This hole is deep and dark and neverending.....

I'll have to post an updated pic of my 10/22 takedown "kit"......

Love the backpacker stock and optic mount. The stock storage is designed specifically to fit 3 10 round mags or a 10 round mag and 50ct box of ammo. Very much an improvement over those generic storage ideas that aren't purpose made. That being said the grip plug storage area is generic, and I have nothing in mine. LOL

I think the theory with the optic mount is that it isn't affected by the how you put the rifle back together or tighten it down. Any slight differences won't show up in your point of aim if the optic is mounted correctly on the barrel section. It should always return to the correct zero.

Thanks

@rantingredneck I look forward to those pictures!

Have any of y'all actually....I dunno.....backpacked with one of these? I'm wondering what the actual use case is other than "hey, look what I can do!", which, incidentally, is a perfectly good use case in itself.

Backpacking would imply exercise. Are you crazy?

But seriously, no. I will though. When the weather isn't this darn hot, I do some rucking on the tobacco trail, a trail at Jordan Lake or one over at the huge park in Cary. I've always used another pack and just loaded it up with stuff to add some weight, but this Fall I'll use the pack with the 10/22 in it. If I hit the mountains this weekend I'll haul it up the hill on my normal walk and see how it feels. Not a real long walk, but it should give me a feel for the weight and distribution in my pack. I won't have time today, But I'll try to get some pics of my setup. I have the Copper Basin pack designed for the 10/22 takedown. And I've added a basic first aid kit, knife, and a few other things.

I'll second CZ's coments...

Once fall/winter gets here, I'll tote it around. I'm not getting out in this weather unless 1) I'm working one of my jobs or 2) I've got stuff to do around the house that requires me to be outside.

I hate hot weather with a passion. Late fall/winter cannot get here soon enough and when it does, its duration is far too short.

Yes, yes I have. Backpacked as in taken it hunting/hiking attached to an actual backpack.

"Fer squirrels and such...."

Ok here is the set up. This pack is designed to blend in, not really hike forever. It does have a padded back and decent straps. Hopefully it carries well. It is not as heavy duty as my other packs, but is decent. Doesn't feel cheap. The sleeve for the rifle is padded. The sleeve on the other side is for a spare barrel. So you could carry one with an optic and one with open sights I guess. I am using mine for first aid kit(s), water filter, fire starter and whatever else I cam cram in there. The two pockets on the front are where I usually will put a compact 9mm and holster plus spare mags and a basic Otis cleaning kit. The 2 sleeves on the top right hold a couple knives and a couple 25rd mags. The bottom is a box of ammo. This bag usually travels with me when I head up to the mountains so that I always have a 22lr handy. If I had to go on foot in some strange emergency it would at least let me carry the rifle and supplies without looking like the big bas ass
I really am. :p

Nothing like hauling a pack around in the summer here huh? I have done it a few times and all that sweat combined with a pack and straps makes for misery. I'll try to do at least a mini hike up the hills if I hit the mountains this weekend. Although I have a ton of work to do up there and sometimes the whiskey flows too freely.

I told y'all that hole is dark and deep......

This is my takedown kit.

Parts breakdown....

It is setup with a a Tacsol barrel and comp and a complete competition bolt from JWH Custom. Standard Ruger trigger guard with Volquartsen internals. Magpul Backpacker stock with 3 10 rounders inside. Magpul MS1 with QDs installed. I also have a setup on my hunting pack to attach this using those QD sockets. As pictured upthread.

Rear sight blade has been replaced by a one ragged hole aperture insert.

YHM picatinny extension over the Magpul Backpacker mount. This allows for a scope to be used as well as a red dot. Surprisingly this setup still allows use of irons through both mounts. I wish Magpul offered a longer backpacker mount. I may look into having something custom machined here.....but it works as is.

Vortex Viper Red dot on ADM QD mount. Have confirmed through many mounts/dismounts that this does return to zero.

Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 Scout on UTG (I know....) QD mounts. Have not yet confirmed RTZ though they do mount rather solidly and seem well made for UTG (I know....). May upgrade to Warne later.

Pack also includes SR22 with front fiber optic sight and 4 mags. 2 of which have Wingman+5 extensions from Tandem Kross.

Pack also includes 2 BX25 magazines and 200 rounds CCI SV.

Cost breakdown....

Don't ask. I don't wanna know.....lol

Your barrel looks so much cooler than mine. :(

With no mags in the gun and no scope or red dot the rifle above is sub 3.5lbs.

It is spendy to look that cool..... Great barrels though.

Yeah, I thought about going a little more overboard, but mine isn't climbing up trees and sniping. At least not yet. But I wouldn't mind adding a better barrel and suppressor at some point. It just isn't a priority now.

EDIT: Bought a black 10/22 takedown with the threaded barrel in an ODG X22 today. Included a BX25 mag, 3 10 rounders, a Bushnell TRS optic. Slapped my X22 optic adapter on it and just ordered the BX trigger and second set of Magpul QD sling adapters. Should be perfect for when my cans arrive!
