I took my G19 out Saturday and wanted to try out a couple new Magpul mags. I loaded the first mag with 10 rounds and it rattled like a can full of pennies. It was almost as though the rounds weren't sitting correctly. I downloaded and tried again with same result.

The first time used, the mag functioned fine. The second use of this mag created a FTF scenario. I cleared it and tried again. The third use of this mag created an epic jam inside the mag. I had to disassemble the mag to empty it out.

I dropped it into my range bag and went to the factory mag with flawless performance.

Did I just get a couple dud mags? Or is this typical?

I already emailed Magpul asking for help.

Thanks.

I have some of the Magpul G17 magazines and they have worked fine, no rattles, no issues. Still, I only carry with factory magazines.

I’ve had good luck with the magpul g19 mags. I’ve ran hundreds of rounds through them at the range and even a few in IDPA. No malfunctions. I have noticed one rattles a bit, but so does an OEM Glock mag I have.

I only carry with OEM Glock mags.

What about them doesnt give you confidence in carrying them daily?

Are these cheaper ($$) than factory mags?

Yes they are cheaper. No metal lining or metal feed lips like the factory Glock mag. I have run some in my G17 without issue that I keep as spares, but for everyday defensive carry, or running thousands of rounds for practice and matches I only run Glock factory mags

Thanks guys. I'm hoping magpul just sends me a couple replacements. I like their stuff. These just seem to be fighting me.

I'll happily return them or destroy st their preference.

Cost for the magpul mags is like $15 each vs. ~$30 each for factory.

I think they may be sprung lighter than OEM. Just a thought based on observation.
Mine rattle partially loaded, so do some of my Glock mags and all my ETS 22 rounders. The Magpuls also fail to activate the slide stop more often than OEM.
I only use Magpuls for dryfire and back-up mags now. All mags vomit dummy rounds if they hit the floor, Glock least often. Since relegating the Magpuls to DF one of them tends to let rounds flop around in it and jam up, just being shoved into the gun can do it, my ETS mags would do this sometimes after dropping and quick slap would get everything right, not so with Magpul.
For a few extra dollars, for standard capacity, I'll probably stick with Glock going forward.

I have confidence in that I have owned my G19 since 1994 and have put an untold number of rounds through it. I've never had an issue with any Glock factory magazine. If I were to shoot Magpul mags for 24 years I may have the same confidence in them. But, I don't think I have 24 years left in me.

I bought some of the Magpul G17 mads from Midway when they were on sale for $9.99. I also bought some 31 round ETS magazines for $12.99. They work, too.

Ithink Magpul makes some good mags. That said I bought a MSAR STG 556 and it came wit no mags so I order some Magpul mags for it until I could get so surplus factory mags for it they were the biggest POS’s I have ever bought. None of them would feed worth a $hit and they would not lock in place, I was abele to score some AUG 30 rnd mags and use a few of them and they seemed fine but as luck would have it two days later I was able to score,25 factory mags in 15 to 42rounds and they always run fine PS if anyone is looking for amber 30 round AUG mags I have about 20 or so new ones I can cut you a deal,on or they can just stay in my closet if interested send me a pm. Thanks Tommy

They don't handle rough housing as well. Cheaper because of no metal lining and lighter but not as robust. They don't always have enough pickup to run in a glock 18

I have 3 glock 19 mags and 1 for my 17 and I’ve had the same issue with all them on several occasions. My 2 shooting buddies also each have several of them and they have issues with theirs as well. I still use them on the range, but I will never carry them or use them in competition.

No trouble using Magpul mags in my Glock 22, 9mm or .40.

Only ones I've tried are their 12-round ones for Glock 26. I've got three of those. No problems thus far.

Magpul suggested the issue was the steel cased ammo. I'll try again with brass, but I don't like paying top dollar for brass cased range ammo until I start reloading 9.

I call BS. Nothing should change.

I don't entirely disagree... But that's the first and only thing he asked. I replied, but heard nothing back yet. I'll still ask for replacement bodies or mags.

I have one AR that refuses to feed steel case ammo. I've tried several different mags with the same results. Brass case ammo works fine. And, I have other ARs that will eat steel case ammo all day long.

Magpul replied to me today confirming steel and aluminum cases may hang up on the mag body due to the coatings on the shell. He said I simply need to lube the interior with a light coating of CLP then wipe it dry. I'll try it...

These mags will be for range use only.

FWIW, I gave away my Magpul G17 mags, they were unrealiable in my PCC.

That's what they told me, don't use steel case ammo. Since all my glocks run just fine on anything vaguely 9mm shaped that I feed them out of the factory mags, I told them I would just stick to factory and they can keep their too cool for school picky mags. I now have 3 really good malfunction inducing mags for training....

PMAGs in an AR? all day every day. Guess not every product can be a winner.

I may just return them to Cabelas. I'll buy a couple Glock factory mags in their place.

I don't like eating money on something unreliable.

Two dollars difference from the factory mags when I bought. Easy decision, don’t have the large drink at Mickey D’s at lunch for a week. I have at least 20 factory Glock mags.

It's not a $2 difference now. Factory mags are +/- $25. The Magpul mags are around $15.

If these run, I'll keep them for range use. However, I'll continue to buy factory mags for EDC purposes.

I did the CLP treatment per Magpul and both mags ran flawlessly for ~300 steel-cased rounds today. While I won't use these mags for EDC, they'll be great for the range!

Same here- just haven't given it away yet. My ETS mags are far more reliable than my Magpuls.
