With all the woodworking I’ve done, I’ve never tried making lures.
Well... that’s changed.

I’m hoping to get a few of these finished for the Fall CapeCod striper run in the next few weeks
Been YouTubing like crazy looking for ideas and paint scheames that I could attempt with my limited airbrushing skills. Never done that before either.

Being I have a bunch of mahogany and some maple, that’s what I started with.

These are 6 1/2 “ x 1 1/2” and will be a thru wire hardware set up.
This one still needs some eyes and hardware installed.

They really look great. It reminds me of when I used to go blue fishing out on a Party Boat up in N.J. There was a guy who came onto the boat with his own homemade jigs. He took a regular kitchen knife and drilled out holes on each side. On one side he put a hook and a swivel on the other side. We all laughed at him thinking he was crazy until he caught just as many fish as we did without spending the money we did for our store bought jigs.

Those look good. If you decide they catch fish, the bass in my pond will eat anything. I’d like to buy a couple from ya

Awesome work. We’ve started airbrushing some blanks we ordered from amazon, my wife is much better than I am at painting. We tried carving some from a piece of balsa but that didn’t go to well.

Nice work, sir! I like that you used flamed maple and left some natural flame come through.

Yeah, I thought it was a cool effect. Hope some big 40 lb Striper does too.

Here are a few she painted. Once we get more done I will try to start a new thread with our process so as not to hijack this one to bad. We need to buy more hardware and epoxy.

YouTube has lots of lure making videos. One guy I like to watch is marling baits. He makes them out of wood and resin, and shows them in action.

Jekyll baits company is another good one to watch. There's a bunch of videos she has out as well.
