I just became aware of their products a couple days ago, they look really nice.

The Mantis X is a device that clips onto a rail or the base of a magazine and tracks the movement of the gun. It evaluates everything from draw to accuracy. I have no idea how it actually does this, but there is no laser, just devices that measure movement.

The Blackbeard is a laser bundled with a battery powered piston that goes into the magwell of your AR and resets the hammer, so you can shoot semi-auto at unto 10 rounds per sec. It projects a laser onto a target, your iphone reads the results. The have an IR laser version, they report that people are using that with an iphone 12, but they don’t guarantee that it’ll work.

They said that if I buy both that I don’t need the blackbeard laser, that the Mantis X will provide shot placement data.

They also have training software that I need to learn more about.

I’m a little hesitant to dry fire at the house for fear of shooting the TV one day, but if I dedicate a gun and space to it I’m sure I can train safely.

I know that a few members have these, including @Gnash.Hyena so please post up anything that I have wrong and your experiences with the products.

The Blackbeard is a full bolt/charginghandle and mag replacement. and they're red plastic. I cannot fathom how you would mix them up with a real rifle.
I hand fit together most of the parts for a new rifle just to use my blackbeard because i got tired of leaving a real good rifle out of the safe with the bcg/handle switched out.

they are fantastic, even without the laser academy app (which did not work right for me with my pistol laser cartridge from mantis). You forget that your sights/optic are ~2.25" above your bore, but you'll remember pretty quick when you're zapping a laser at every light switch, beer can, etc around the house at whatever distance you please.

not worried about mixing up the blackbeard, it’s the mantis x10 that’s normally just a nub on the bottom of a pistol magazine that’d lead to problems. One day walking around killing light switches, characters on the tv, etc, and the next figuring out how to get a new tv, plaster and paint before the wife gets back with groceries.

I have it on good authority that a repositioned hard back chair, small hammer and complaints of a ‘shin pain’ can make shooting your nice flat screen appear to be an accident.

It is definitely the most significant tool for teaching me HOB in CQB and close-up competition shots. That knowledge has saved my bacon a few times at matches where shooting near no-shoot targets was necessary at close distances.

Stuff arrives this Friday. Being UPS it’s scheduled for 7pm, at my office.

Well, early in my collecting career I shot my flat screen with a S&W 642. Then I staged it to look like I took a header tripping over a chair.

And, we’ll, there you have it.
Since no one got hurt, that’s funny.
Did you ever inform your wife?
