Many arguments on this site...

It is amazing how people that are otherwise genteel and respectful of others become curt, abrasive, and even insulting when granted a degree of anonymity. I am guilty. Helps me when I recall my father's second favorite axiom for life, "Character is the way you behave when no one else is looking".

His first favorite was the Golden Rule - I hated that one.

You're wrong.

And you suck.

And of course Tim is correct. I agree.

I don't argue. I calmly explain to you why you are wrong and I am right. :D

And I will continue to discuss it with you until you agree with me or just give up and agree with me. I can't wait until I am retired and have nothing pressing to do all day, I will never be wrong again.

Internet anonymity often brings out the worst in people. Just like road rage. We feel safe and protected in our cars and often make rude gestures/yell/name call/etc. The internet does the same thing to us because we have hidden our true names behind fictional usernames and avatars. And we feel safe to say whatever we want while sitting in front of a PC, huddled in our parents' warm humid basement surrounded by old mountain dew bottles filled with room temperature pee.

I am either right and you are wrong or I am wrong and you are right, but I am still correct!!! And everyone else sucks!!!:D

In addition to what @Alabamacoastie said, keep in mind that something like 90% of communication is non verbal and when you are writing, especially in an informal format, a good percentage of that communication is missing. Consequently, it is easy to read into a statement, read into it a tone or meaning that wasn't present.

In other words, what may be taken as rude may not have been meant in that fashion.

Im a jokester...love to poke fun. Especially at myself and the Missus. Thats why when I post something thats meant to be funny or fun spirited, I use one of these along with it :);):p:D:eek::rolleyes:
And some folks STILL dont get it. It's not personal, it's a joke.

As far as the arguements go, I generally dont engage. I'll post my opinion on something, and if someone starts nit picking it, I generally ignore it. There are a few members here capable of actual discussion, and I will engage with them. But mostly just scroll on by because that nit picking is usually someone looking for a fight.

We saw this kind of behavior back in the 70s, during the heyday of CB radios.

It hasn't changed. There are a few renown repeaters send HF frequencies that still carry on like that. The informal FCC opinion is that it's better to give them a hangout, as long as they keep it there, so everyone else can ignore it.

Just because I live with my mom doesn't mean I stay in the basement and what I do with my pee is none of your damn business. You should kill yourself you know nothing with a tiny penis.

Thinks to self - *How does everyone know about my tiny penis?*

Does anyone else agonize over what to post in threads where you have a strong viewpoint. It bothers me if I feel it was posted without forethought. I will usually go back and erase it if I think it will incite a negative reaction.

"Give a man a mask and he will show you his true face".

For those who say that their online persona isn't what they are really like I submit that it's what they would be like in person if they had any real power.

Or as Freud would probably surmise that the Internet allows the ID to reveal itself with fear of personal consequences....
