What's her name has decided (for some unknown reason) that we need a new mattress, what in heck brought that on remains a mystery. Boyfriend lost his spring was my first thought but ruled that out since she doesn't have time for one.

So off we go, I tell her I'm going to 2 (two) stores and that's my limit. I laid on a couple before I invited the cute sales girl to join me on a premium firm which of course went over like a you know what in the punch bowl.

Okay, one down, I can see the finish line in sight. Get to the second one and lo and behold (I've always wanted to work that into a conversation) the sales girl is even cuter!! I plop my butt down and look at the sales girl and pat the mattress beside me and lo and behold (again) she plops down!!! The AC must have kicked into overdrive 'cause it sure as heck got a whole lot colder in that showroom.

To spare additional details, 3200.00 bucks later that sucker is going to be delivered and set up Wednesday and what's her name is out of town Wednesday, what a coincidence...... Test drive in my near future?? Updates to follow....

Mattresses are expensive. Couple of months ago, the boss decided also that we needed a new mattress, we ended up choosing the firmest tempurpedic and I have to admit it was a good decision but then again I spent 20 years of my life sleeping on the cheapest mattress on the floor.

Wife bought a $1200 mattress and a memory foam topper at Costco. Slats across the side boards, no foundation. Best bed we've had. And this is a king size.

It took a lot of convincing but in retrospect I’m glad my wife pushed hard for a tempurpedic. Money well spent for how much better I sleep. 10 yr warranty with some real good feedback on it from folks I know.

I thought there was several well regarded mail order matress deals these days? We're probably overdue for a new one, but before I drop $3200 I'll just install some eye bolts and hang Eno's in the master bedroom.
I have threatened to do the same thing

You’re a real sadist pointing an old man at a foam bed. I tried it once, and it took me a week to stand up straight again. I’d rather sleep on gravel.

I just bought a sleep number bed that will be delivered Friday. That thing was 5,000 bucks! Luckily we got my MIL to put it in her name so we were able to get a grand off for upgrading (she has one already) and then another hundred off for referal. Still a crazy amount for a bed but if it helps my aching back it will be worth it!

OK, @Bailey Boat , I know that $3200 had to be the sale price. Because, I've never seen a mattress store that was having a sale.

Still got our Sealy Posturpedic circa 1989 that cost me $1,200 at JC Penney.
I flip it regularly and it still works great.

If you’ve never slept on latex foam, you owe it to yourself to try it.
Agreed. With my back issues I will not go back to any other. We have used one since 2009 and it has helped me tremendously.

Another selling point of the Latex Foam mattress is their longevity of 10-15 years with no sag or depressions. They do not break down and deteriorate like traditional inner spring mattresses or the poly foam mattresses, which will occur in less than 10 years.

A good thread from last year:

if the calculations are right, and we spend 1/3 of our lives asleep, including a 10-year warranty, that's $0.88 per day.

Nobody could sell a mattress like Joey Heatherton.

Yup, my wife turned me onto Purple right after their kick starter campaign, $1200 for a king, 100 night return policy.
I initially laughed and said heck no, I'm not buying some online mattress. After doing a little mattress shopping and realizing that we'd be spending a MINIMUM of $3k on anything decent, I took a second, third, and fourth look at Purple and everything Google could tell me about them.
Almost 2yr later were quite happy with our purchase.

Not sure what it is, but we have some foam mattress up at the cabin that was pretty cheap. Feels fine to me. I guess we'll see how long it last. The guest rooms also have pretty cheap mattresses and they have all felt fine to me. Although the older I get the more it matters. I am kinda digging firmer mattresses these days.

You don't want the guests to stay too long.;)

In my travel trailer I have a $200 Walmart special foam mattress. It seems pretty comfortable but then I come home and sleep on my Tempurpedic. If you think $3,200 is bad, don’t buy one of those.

We delivered a mattress to a customer once that gave us the queen size sleep number she was replacing. I was going to sell it but ended up giving it to my sister. I do hope you like your's better though.

My neighbor and his wife just got a Sleep Number. He now sleeps in his recliner. Says he can't stand the SN!

P.S.- Why do mattresses come with 10-25 year warranties when they tell you that you should replace them every 8 years?

A lot of mattress warranties are voided if any liquid gets on them at all. We bought a brand new Vera Wang mattress (which is like sleeping on dense clouds of regret) and voided the warranty within a week.

Because the bedding business is 80% marketing and 20% product. ;)

WINNA, WINNA, CHKN DINNA..... I found that out yesterday at the Original Mattress Company and Mattress Firm........

I know the 3200 seems steep but I think we got a quality mattress that will last for many years and be a little more comfortable that what we're sleeping on now. Neither of us is heavy enough to do any damage to a mattress, LJ is 115 soaking wet and I go about 180 so it will last a good while.

We flipped and spun our 12 year old Kingsdown last week. We are talking about replacing it, but not sure it needs it yet. We've both lost a bit of weight and suddenly the mattress sleeps better.

Coupla years ago, we bought a beautyrest black verona, queeen size on sale for 3k. Had it two months and wife decided we needed a king. So 4k later we have the same mattress in king size, and the 3k queen is in the guest room and rarely gets used. Oh I miss the days of awesome monthly bonuses. Heh.

I got 60 days to try it out and if I don't like it or it don't help my back any that bitch will be headed back!

We've bought all our mattresses at the Original Mattress Company in Charlotte and have been quite pleased. We just upgraded to a king sized after 12 years and dropped around $1400 for an orthepedic pillow top. Sleeps great!
