I'm thinking of getting a new EDC sling bag to replace my current RUSH24 pack. I've narrowed my choice down to the 5.11 PUSH pack or the Maxpedition jumbo versipack. I'm leaning towards the Versipack because it looks like it can easily carry my 32oz nalgene water bottle. Do any of you have experience with one or both of these bags? If so, which would you recommend and why? Thanks

Maxpedition has been bombproof for me and I am not gentle on them. No experience with the 5.11 stuff, but I've had friends who've used them hard and tore them up.

Personal preference....

I dislike the sling bags that position at your hip. I find them always to be in the way of something. Gun, Reload, Knife, Wallet, Phone, something.

I prefer the style that sits at the small of the back. Look up the Remora, Lunada, and Malaga. Three different sizes of the same basic bag with the remora being the smallest. No dedicated water bottle pocket, but..... pick up an appropriately sized rollypoly dump pouch and attach it. Unroll it and stick your water bottle in it. Roll it up when not in use. Not saying it's the only way to skin a cat, it's just the way I skinned that cat.....

The Jumbo Versipack is very well made. I've had for about 4-5 years, though I only carried it for about a year regularly then put it on secondary duty. It always impressed me how well it held up. No frays, zipper problems and it still looks new. My needs have changed so it sits in my man cave. If you are looking for one in green then make me a reasonable offer

I have the LE version of the versipack as my in the mountains out in the woods pack. Mine has the AR pouch instead of the water bottle holder, but pretty much the same bag. Very well made and no issues. Material is tough and shows no wear. I throw mine in the Gator, on the ground and wherever else I go up there.

Maxpedition. I agree with RR I have a few now, oldest has been used rough daily for 10 years. Its still in great shape. I've had a broken plastic buckle on it... it still works so i haven't replaced it. Love my maxpedition gear.

You just cost me $120 for a Malaga. I was perfectly content with my Versipack. Then I had to go and read that and thought, "You know, he's right. That pack IS always in the way when I'm casting my fly rod..."

Go with maxpedition. 5.11 products are garbage nowadays.
