So I was down a Youtube hole and was watching a video about a guys stealth truck bed urban camping setup and once again I started pondering my weird little 2/3rds scale minivan (2009 Mazda 5) and its utility as a camper. Little Youtube search later and I found a hipster chick who converted hers (well her dad did it for her).
This got me thinking pretty hard. I've only ever used my third row seat (yeah three rows of seats in something the size of a Mazda 6!) once. I've carried passengers in the second row less than a dozen times. Everything just bolts in. I'd like it to be reversible, so rather than the more permanent sort of builds I see, I'm tempted to yank one middle seat and the back bench and make a simple platform to flatten enough space for a sleeping bag with me in it. I -just- fit laying down with my head close to the door or the front seat, although a slight angle makes it more comfortable. I'd have stowage in the second row seat and the part of the third row and trunk I'm not sprawled in. Stripped out it's surprisingly roomy. There's even power setups and cubbies in the trunk area already.
Thoughts? Anyone done something similar, sort of lofi version of that awesome ambulance to camper thread that was on here?
