Thinking of buying my son a meat grinder from Cabelas for Christmas. Any recommendations?
I know nothing about them, and thus what to look out for. Thanks for any tips!

Anything at Cabalas is going to be good quality.. Just make sure and buy an electric one, the hand crank models waste a lot of meat and are a PITA to use..You might want to look into different grinding discs then what it comes with also ? Mine came with a medium and small disk but bought the large cutting disk because its best for sausage.. Hope this helps and Im sure the sales staff can help you select one for your Sons needs..

Spend the money on the full steel ones. Anything plastic bodied is for light use. Iirc mine is 1/3 HP from Gander and it’s run for years. Need to get a new switch but once it’s on it runs fine.

Got one under my tree. Was a gift for my brother in law who lost his life drinking and driving 3 days before last Christmas. Still wrapped from last year his girlfriends mom pulled the label and said she wanted me to have it.

I love mine.

I started out with a Kitchen Aid mixer attachment, then got a "full size" one at Gander when I saw it on sale.

I hesitated buying online after I looked at one in a kitchen store - it had a plastic splined socket and spindle cover over a pot metal screw-thingy (tech term, sorry). I figured one overzealous cram of meat chunk might strip the psuedo-gear. The one I bought is definitely a lighter-duty model, but it has metal parts. I think the motor is 1/3HP, but it might be less.

In any case, it suits my needs, which are up to 5lbs of meat at a time several times year. I think it was $99 on sale from $129.
