mechanic garage rentals around here?

It would be nice to have a shop you could rent for a few hours or a day with lifts and tire changing setup.

That was/is a thing in the NE. You could find hourly or day rentals. Here, not so much. Maybe due to the winter not being so long and cold?

I dream about a lift to help out on some maintenance items. A set of ramps really help.

Why don’t we find a place for lease with a lift, go in and lease it together, and anyone on the forum that needs it can drive there and use it.

I seem to remember one of our members looking into this in the past. @Qball maybe?

I've thought seriously about it myself. Even had a conversation with my Dad about it a few weeks ago.

In WS there was a rental garage at the corner of Fairlawn and Reynolda back in the early 80's. They provided shop air and the lifts, BYOT.

I imagine those things are long gone all across the country due to the steady decline of the collective intelligence and liability.

Why don’t we find a place for lease with a lift, go in and lease it together, and anyone on the forum that needs it can drive there and use it.

Because one person would ruin it for everyone else.

We have a shop in Mocksville. Just got it rented out last week. That does sound like a great idea but lots of liability and issues I foresee

Edit to say we own the building, we are not the renters

This place is in Charlotte. I don't know what their membership rate is, though.

Also, if someone is feeling frisky, you can buy trailers that have 2 post or scissor lifts built into them. There are a few of them that travel around to major races and car events.

Example:

I know new river air station has something similar to what you are looking for. If you have base access maybe see if there are any close to you.

Not sure how getting on the waiting list works. I know most stuff retirees are last and for some things it's next to impossible to get a spot.

Asking for a friend. What does a 6 bay shop with lifts rent for?

Yeah, I asked just to see how far out of my league that is.
$2,500/month.

It may be for sale soon. It’s on the corner of 601 and 64 right up from Ingersoll Rand

Hobby shop on base (any service connected veteran has access, make a friend), best deal around.

I suspect things got out of hand on Bragg, looks like only DOD ID card holders and their family members now. The prices for service make me scratch my head a bit, things look like they would add up quick.

I love the idea of a shop for rent or membership based shop but what a god awful nightmare it would be dragging tools back and forth and making additional trips home for those “Aw crap” moments. We ALL know NOTHING ever goes as planned.

Fort Bragg has a self help shop that does that..
They used to have a paint booth as well until a Private Fk’ed it up

I only used one on bragg once, every other time i used the garage on pope, but they probably closed that up. When i went it was cheap, the point was to save the service members money.

After looking through those prices may as well let someone else do it. $20 per item to use the hydraulic press? Really?

$20 for a battery check that’s free at any auto parts store?

Don’t forget your 10 mm socket. I would hate to know what the replacement cost would be

clearly you haven't priced out repairs at retail....

I would be happy to pay $11/hr for a lift bay. Even if it takes me all day to change a few fluids it's less than half of getting it done.

buy a jack/jackstands or ramps, no lift at my house and hasn't stopped any work from getting done

The one I linked is on Pope.

Right, a set of wheel bearings or sway bar bushings and you could have purchased a press of your own.

I get it tho, that’s for folks that don’t have a garage or space to work.

😲 😲 😲 😲

Someone told me active/retired military get access to mechanic bays and lifts on base

Meanwhile I’m laying in the driveway lifting the truck with a trolly jack and two blocks

Young guy I worked with had to replace the rear oil seal on his Volvo middle of a cold Raleigh winter, told him to rent a storage garage and I let him use my propane heater. Kept him warm and dry with door open.

Went to one in charlotte back in 2009ish. Decent space. Byot. They said liability was so bad, their insurance would only allow business owners to operate lifts.

Expensive per hour. They I think we're operating under a 150 hour rental/month to pay for space alone. It was 3 buddies with the same dream model as mentioned above.

It didn't last.
