He was found at a gas station and was set to be put down this coming week. The shelter we drove to get him from said he tested positive for heartworms but said they have had false positives so we shall see when he goes to the vet this week. Super smart (like all blues healer should be) house trained....very loving and takes food like a baby with no teeth.

Good for you, ACDs are a fine breed.
As far as the Heartworms, if there is a question of the cost of treatment there is the slow kill method which is just to start the dog on treatment and eventually the buggers will die off.

Discuss that with the vet and depending on what they say will help determine if they are worth keeping.

Yep that is exactly how we are going to do it if he does have them....$40 per monthly office visit and $175 for the three month treatment then another round if he needs it....we decided we could pay the $ to a breeder (how we got our Sir Austin) or save this guy....below is his mug shot.

Good on you for rescuing... We rescued one recently. She has a few quirks that I'm working out, but she's been a great addition to our family.

Rescues are the best!! They know what the end looks like and they appreciate the second chance.

Beautiful dog.

And stubborn as the day is long. Pretty dog.

He isn't as bad as Austin....he doesn't have the same "drive" but is just as smart....it's funny how he turned his nose up at ice the first few times we offered it but just has to have it now after watching the other two dogs enjoying it.

If we open the freezer door Chaser will be sitting beside you before you close it. Man does he love ice. Well, he'll pretty much eat anything. I didn't realize when they said cattle dog they meant part goat. lol

I had a half heeler half German Shep for many years. Super smart, loyal and a c t i v e . Man that do could play fetch the tennis ball like a rocket ship. Tremendously protective and brave. Thank you for saving one.

Vet said he is positive for heartworms doing the slowkill/prevention method see no need to do the other way much more painful for him cost more and having to keep him locked up 4 weeks then 6 weeks is ridiculous. Vet said he is older than the shelter estimated but not older than 6...so 4 sounds good to me....
We also switched our other two dogs off the soft chews they were taking after it was announced it could cause seizures...vet told us the topical is the best as it is a true prevention med vs the other is a 10 day prevention after killing anything they got the 20 days prior....
