Just picked up some cool toys from Cold Steel and Ontario.

What's your favorite melee weapons?

I bought a few Cold Steel machetes for no other reason than "oh that's interesting" - and was pleasantly surprised with what I received (for the money).

After watching the kill tests on Forged in Fire I would choose the ikiwa.

I plan on avoiding any melee's and having some distance between me and any crazies. If I end up in a crowd like that I have made several bad decisions that day, and I am going to quickly and quietly evacuate. I'd say if you really think you might end up in one then dress to blend in and go with the flow until you can sneak off. Hand to hand combat in the midst of 100's of people is a recipe for a hospital visit. It won't be like you are Sir William Wallace in Braveheart slicing through dozens of people. You will get bashed, slashed or gashed. Possibly seriously. Not for me. I am keeping some distance bewteen me and such folks.
 
I don’t own any real melee weapons but a favorite improvised one is an athletic sock with a couple D batteries or such dropped in it ... swingin’ for the noggin’

The chances of a successful fight against a mob is slim. #1 is to evade/escape, if not then let your 'crazy' out.

As for a weapon: pick a medium weight, short (24"-36") easy to swing blunt stick. You want to break bones. What you don't want is to have it stuck in or wrap around something.

Aside from knives, an ASP baton or leather sap. Or the slide of a G35?
The batons are pretty easy to carry and a leather sap fits in your back pocket pretty easily.
 
I still want a rechargeable LED flashlight in a lead pipe that no one makes.

What are those small war clubs popular with the NA's during the Revolution called? - It was basically a rock on the end of a hatchet sized handle.

I am not going to succeed at melee defense. Not a chance. Run (slowly) and shoot anyone that gets close. Maybe they’ll pick on someone else.

Or stay home. That’s it.

If I had my choice I suppose my 2011 with a 29 round mag and several reloads. .2 splits between one hit per closest attackers. That would discourage most mobs if they didn’t start with their hands on me.

No wait - best melee weapon is Jerry Miculek loaded up and ready for the buzzer! Short of air support, I think that wins!
 
I think my favourite melee weapon would be a 'roid-raging gorilla hopped up on PCP.

Maybe. He gives each attacker a lot of personal attention. Jerry would give each attacker about .3 seconds (2 .15 splits) and the next one would be the same .15 later.
