Mil surp picture thread

I told the wife I was bored, being cooped up in the house all day. She said I needed to get off my ass and complete some of the many unfinished projects around the house. She was not happy when she came back later and saw that I chose this one!

This one was refurbished by James River Armory. New receiver (JMA) with surplus Beretta surplus parts and stock. Spoke for a while with the folks at James River before purchasing this rifle. They were very helpful in telling me what they do. This particular one did not come with the bayonet, but I plan to pick one up shortly. I'm planning on taking it to the range on Sunday to give it a spin.

Very nice. Is that BAR a dummy or working?

I thought I had posted this once before but couldn't find it. Here is my Chinese SKS. The guy who I traded with said it was a "paratrooper" due to the shortened barrel but I think it is actually what is left of a "Cowboy Companion". It has the scope mount pinned on the port side of the receiver, but no scope came with it. I am not an expert on SKS history so it is a somewhat educated guess as I did do some online researching. No matter, it is in good condition, all matching numbers except the fiberglass "jungle" stock, and it is a great shooter.

Model 1819 Hall breech loading flintlock infantry rifle. A really cool breech loading action. Taken on a tour recently at the Cody firearms museum in Cody WY.

One more beauty shot, with a Strichtarn/"raindrop" holster I picked up. Very nice quality and design, and the quick draw strap and clasp feature is quite effective. Much faster than the leather holster above.

@Henry Brown or other Mak experts ... any background knowledge on these holsters? I've read a bit of varying information across the internet.

Hello. These holsters were produced in quantity during the mid-to-late 1980's as part of a new system of web gear based a far as I can tell on the British P-58 web gear. Apparently, again based on what research turned up or rather did not turn up, they and the new web gear system were never issued. Neat little holsters but a word of caution. I have seen reports that long term storage of a pistol in them can lead to light rust spots. The green nylon web belts are not difficult to find and relatively inexpensive if you ever decide to go NVA whole hog. Cheers

Had a nice trip to the CMP a couple weekends ago picking up a 1943 Springfield Garand and a 1943 Remington 1903a3. Met a nice guy in Charlotte later that week grabbing a 1920's Rock Island 1903. Now im going to have to wait a bit for my bank acct to recover. Looking around for a good outdoor range though to have some fun, recommendations welcome.
