I used to own a Mini-14 that I traded off for something or another. It was a fun rifle and a very handy truck gun. I have been casually looking for another one and am getting sticker shock. From what I recall you used to be able to find a clean used rifle for $425ish and now I can't find anything under $550 for a rifle showing a lot of wear. I am not in a rush to buy one but is this typical?

Well this is rather disappointing. I knew the folding stocks were selling for a kings ransom but had no idea basic rifles were.

Checking my inventory list I must have one in Black and stainless and according to the record, I have the 5 round mag, 3, 30 round mags and 4, factory 20 rounders. Somebody make an offer, I could always use a new shotgun.....

Slightly beat up Mossberg 500 in 20g straight swap? I mean I have the pistol grip AND a surplus stock with actual Army paint on it!

;)

^doesnt have quite the same appeal as the stainless folding stock, to me anyway.

I just started thinking about this yesterday and just saw your thread. Very disappointed in the pricing

I bought my first (and only) Mini-14 used back in 1981. The serial # was 181-504XX. I don't recall exatly what I paid for it though. I ended up trading it away later in the 80's for Browning shotgun. I don't have either of them now but I do wish I still Had the Mini.

I have one of the newer models with the thicker barrels, it's marked 556 instead of 223 . Accuracy has improved over the older models, but I agree that it would be more convenient of it were set up to take ar mags.dont shoot it a lot, but it's nice to have one on the safe.next on the list of wants is a mini 30

I still see them in the $400 range as Police trades every now and then, but they are often in pretty rough shape. King's had them for $400 just last month, but they had a ton of "character."
I came close to getting one of these but the character was a bit much. They lloked like they had been pulled out of the Mekong Delta.

I had a mini 30. It wouldn’t fire Russian ammo. Primers were too hard. Pretty pointless to own a 7.62x39 if it won’t shoot cheap ammo IMO.

I'd love to find one of the 6.8SPC versions & get the chamber re-reamed to SPC II. Wouldn't be as accurate as my 6.8AR, but if it'd hold MOBE (minute of booger eater) to 300yds, I'd be more than happy. It's a hard hitting round & developed specifically for increased lethality on 200lb thin skinned mammals out to 450yds. I like more "traditional" long guns & the Mini 6.8 is right up my alley.

I'd like to get one to keep my 6.8 AR company, but they've become hard to find. Mini's in 6.8 are expensive too. Saw an unfired one at a gun show recently and it was priced at $1200.

Yeah no kidding. I talked to a guy at academy the other day. He said they had a mini14 in .300blackout that day for months and months before it sold. I guess no one cared about that one.
