You know how sometimes you let your better half talk you into something that you know in your heart isn't going to work out?? Yesterday LJ and I were planning to have big, thick, juicy burgers for dinner and she got the bright idea to put some BBQ sauce over them.
Chester (the guy that sits on my shoulder and whispers in my ear) spoke up right away and told me that he thought that was the worst idea he'd heard all year, so I only coated 2 of them with KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. First bite in I knew Chester was right!! They tasted like crap!! Consistency was not good, taste was off the hook (in a backwards direction) and I only had the ONE bite. LJ had 2 bites and then fixed her regular burger up and ate it, so did I.... Lesson learned, just because the wife thinks it's a good idea don't make it so......

You know what I make when the wife wants me to cook?.........Reservations!

But...you just have to go ahead and do it so they will know it was a bad idea. You cannot explain it beforehand.
I tell my family, "Easier for me to show you than to tell you, so here goes..."

i have put BBQ sauce on a burger before, it was ok... i found that if you do it really sparingly and then melt some sharp cheddar over it, then add some bacon you get a really unique good taste...

but i have to agree, that when you want a really good burger, putting BBQ on it just doesnt satisfy that really good burger taste craving..
And sauteed onions.
But i like sweet baby ray's myself

BUT...this is how you find truly awesome delights, by trying something different.

BBQ on burgers isn't necessarily a bad idea. It depends a lot on the BBQ sauce, how/when it's put on, the amount, how it's cooked, and certainly on personal taste preferences.

Also, there's a difference between something that just tastes "different" and something that tastes "bad" or "good". A lot of this has to do with cultural upbringing.

For example, people brought up on candies in the U.S. probably won't like a lot of candies eaten in Mexico, and vice versa. In the U.S, candies are, by and large, sweet. In Mexico, candies aren't generally sugar based...they're more salt based and spicy, or sweet and sour due to tamerind. (Yes, they have sweat candies, too.)

Sometimes its easier to show them its a bad idea instead of the fight.

i must admit it is sometimes hard to surpress the laugh and smile as they are trying to eat it and not admit you were right.

I got takeout from Bibs Downtown a while back and my food came with this BBQ lookin' sauce (thin and runny, not thick and oily) that didn't complement my food in my opinion, but it had a good taste to it. I saved it to mix in my burgers and whoa....... it was awesome. I pick some up every once in a while for this purpose. I used about a tablespoon of A1 sauce per 1/4 pound patty for years, but the A1 recipe has changed..... it's not worth a hockey any more. I still don't know what the sauce is actually meant for but it's an awesome burger seasoning/marinade.

I used to make up a marinade for burgers that was a mix of soy sauce, A1, Worcestershire, heinz 57 and a bunch of other stuff. I mix it in the meat before making the patties.

Then I discovered A1 New Orleans Cajun marinade. I now just use that as it's almost as good as the home made marinade and I don't have to make it.

Ive done BBQ sauce on burgs before - I liked it.

Fresh burger patty

ring of pineapple grilled as you grill the burger

place pineapple on burger and put a slice of American fake cheese on top

melt fake cheese

enjoy

just exactly is fake cheese??

Look at a package of Kraft American cheese and if you see the words "cheese food" it's fake. If all you see is "Kraft American Cheese" it's the real deal.....
LJ (a cheese head from Madison) once picked up the wrong package while we were shopping. I saw it and immediately called her Mother on my speakerphone and was telling her about this and her remark was, "I'm so ashamed"..... LJ was embarrassed but put it back and got the right one.... Relationship saved..... And don't even get me going on Velveeta...

I have been told that genuine Philly Steak and Cheese sammiches use Cheese Whiz. Don't know if it's true or not.

It's true and it's disgusting. I love Philly steaks but I don't eat one in Philly anymore because I won't eat that synthetic cheese. Melt a couple of slices of real cheese on there and I'm all in.

Most cheeses are whitish in color..... I don't know how or why the yellowish-orange color came about. Kraft had a "Deli Slice??" product for a while that was OK. It didn't have the individual wrappers, it was somewhat firm while refrigerated.... like most cheeses are. The "Singles" are really flimsy....not cheese. A cheese head buddy of mine from La Crosse called American Cheese "Mutt Cheese" and would have none of it. At any rate he convinced me to go to the cheese factory in West Jefferson and do the tour..... My concept and taste for cheese changed at this point.

This is all I use on a burger. https://www.cfsauer.com/product/hamburger-seasoning-00534/

That is what I was thinking. I haven't bought that in the last year once we figured out that Sargento was a lot better. I'm sure Sargento isn't the best, but it's the best that we can find in our sorry ass grocery store.

Not sure if they still do, but when a friend of mine lived in West Jefferson, you could go to the outlet and buy bags of cheese curds. I loved them!

Devil's Spit bbq sauce, mixed in with hand formed burgers is good.
If one is going to put it on the burger, one should wait until it is nearly done. That way it caramelizes rather than burns.

When I do patties I use garlic powder, onion powder, other seasonings, and sometimes a dab of Sweet Baby Ray's holden BBQ sauce. That mustard-based gift from Heaven is by far my favorite commercial bbq sauce. Damn near identical to the sauce my all-time favorite bbq joint in Kingsland, GA uses.
