I have a 24" bull bbl varmint setup for long range with fully adjustable Magpul PRS stock but also have a lighter 20" upper that is much lighter and easier to handle.

Looking at a lower build kit with MOE carbine stock; can always upgrade later but wondered if anyone uses the MOE with a standard scope for longer range shooting? How is the cheek weld etc? This will be 99% bench or prone.

Real world experience welcomed!

I use the ACS stock on some of my scoped builds and have had no issues. Its got a wider cheek weld, but is the same overall height. I feel like it will come down to which rings or mount you choose to go with.

I have a dozen or so of them on ARs...but they all have red dots. You’re welcome to borrow one for awhile to try it out if you’d like.

Borrow a complete lower, or a stock...whatever works for you. I’m in Charlotte, so you ought to be around here somewhere.

Thx - I have another carbine style lower I can test with plain GI style M4 stock. Without adjustable cheek riser there is likely not a huge difference between styles and MOE will be an upgrade vs. that. With low recoil and from prone it's probably not a huge issue, just figured someone may have tried it already.

As stated above, most of it will depend on the height of your mount/rings. I had similar thoughts about the height and bought one of the larue risr kits that put your cheek a little higher but it moves when you pull the charging handle so you don't have to have it fully extended to use. It worked well but I have changed most of my optics out to where a regular stock works.

I have ran a standard MOE stock with a variable powered optic with zero issues, everything from a.308 AR with a 4–16 to a 10.5” AR pistol with a 1-6 Strike eagle.

I prefer the Magpul CTR stock because they lock in place, but I’m running a standard MOE stock on my .458 Socom AR with a 1-4 primary arms scope.

As someone mentioned above, I also installed a LaRue cheek riser on my wife’s AR which is currently running a standard MOE stock, I was going to upgrade her stock to a Magpul PRS Gen 3 like the one of my 24” 6.5 Grendel AR but my wife prefers the MOE stock with the cheek riser installed.
