Hard to believe it's been 20 years since that explosion on the moon caused it to fly out of our orbit. Jokes aside, this was a great show.

It was a fun show, produced by Gerry & Sylvia Anderson - remember Thunderbirds? Similar special effects & drama. What a hoot.

I hope they find a home soon.

I had one of the Dinky Toys Diecast ships like this one when I was a little kid. I remember it was on sale at the PX my mum got it for me, she and I would watch Space 1999 together. pretty awesome little toy.

Get an Eagle on pad one now.
Commander, we can't turn off computer...
    We can and we will.

The show was ahead of it's time.

UFO was another Anderson hit circa 1970.

Watched several hours of it yesterday on comet. They were having a marathon. Used to watch it as a kid. Had one of the eagle ship toys and action figures too. Probably wound up unceremoniously going in the trash when my parents thought I was past it or something.

The show was ahead of its time.

It’s interesting to see what sci-fi got right and wrong about the future. 40 years after the show and we haven’t even been back to the moon, but our computers, even ones we wear on our wrists, are far more powerful.

I remember the episode “dragon domain” when some shrieking one-eyed monster got on board one of their spacecraft. It would lure you close , suck you into its mouth with its tentacles, then spit out a charred corpse.

Clutching my spaceship toy in bed that night, I was petrified and didn’t sleep a wink.

    upload_2019-9-14_8-47-21.jpeg

Of course it’s so cheesy to watch now, but I LOVED that show!

Yup, as Cinamon Carter on Mission IMPOSSIBLE TV series.
Also liked Zenia Morton who played Sandra.

The UFO officers on the moonbase SHADO were nice.

Loved the show during first run. Rewatching on Comet, I'm struck by how cheesy it was. But it still brings back happy memories.

I had 3 eagles, some play set I vaguely remember, lunch box (metal, of course) and that was in '77 when I literally got every Star Wars toy and as much KISS stuff my folks could find for Christmas. I sometime wish I had taken better care of it all so I still had it today (could make a small fortune) but I had a load of fun playing with it and using my imagination, something kid's don't seem to have/need today.

Friends and I spent hours playing with nothing more than a few toys and our imaginations. That’s where the adventure was at. When we got older, we played lots of dungeons and dragons. Yeah, there was a basic map and script, but the game was in your head. Like reading a good book.

Yup, my best friend in HS was forbidden from playing because his parents thought that. We did anyway. My grandfather would spend the winters in Florida (most of the school year) so we would play on a Friday or Saturday night at his house. We’d usually play till like 3 or 4 am. Even had girls join us which bothered some parents, though nothing happened. They just liked the game too.

That's some hotshot flyin'! Landing an eagle that close to powerlines -- especially relying on 1999 technology -- is a lost skill.

My grandpa still have the massive Eagle toy that belonged to my uncle's - my own kids play with it these days. Missing a door, I think, but all the chairs and suck are still in it.

There's a lot of "Fan Fiction" in an expanded universe of sorts online.

I do remember as a kid watching this and thinking that 1999 was SO FAR into the future. Oh man. The older I get, the quicker it goes.

The same company that produced Space:1999 also produced The Muppet Show in the 70's. The logo would flash on the screen before the show started. I never knew which one was going to come on so it was a little bit of a surprise each time. I still love the old logo.

1999 had great special effects using miniatures.
UFO is also worth watching the pilot episode.
