I picked up another Mora from @thrillhill a couple of days ago. I "needed" a decent fixed blade to leave in a toolkit. It is a carbon model and I didn't want it to rust on its own staying in the kit mainly unseen and unused for months at a time. I soaked it in apple cider vinegar for 24 hours and got a nice even patina on the blade. After cleaning the blade I touched it up on one of my strops and it is hair popping sharp. I wiped it down with Ballistol and put it away. I think it turned out nice.

Yes it does in the same way as bluing does. You can use at home bluing agents instead of vinegar but they may not 100% food safe. For a knife that may be used in food prep I use vinegar because it is a 100% food safe option.

I put my Mora carbon companion HD in vinegar overnight and that patina has lasted over 5 years. Looks like a matte gunmetal gray now, and as long as I keep olive oil on it, she doesn't even think about rusting.
 
Any specific ACV? Bragg, Whitehouse or does it even matter?
 
I bought my mom a carbon mora from @thrillhill and wrapped hers in a an onion peel. Gave the patina some character. Once it started showing a little rust and I cleaned it up with a scotchbrite pad and in another onion and it’s holding up nicely. Keep in mind she wanted one for the kitchen that could be sharpened and she uses it every single day. Having to only touch it up once in 2 years is pretty good IMO
