Motorcycle accident

Was referred to orthopedics for my shoulder.. torn rotator cuff.
Can't have surgery until neurologist clears me so looking like Dec for surgery then a 3-6 month recovery 🙃. I'll be out of the wrench turning world for quite a bit if not permanently.
6 months seems like a stretch. I was out of the sling in 2 weeks. Fully released in 10 weeks. I had 4mm holding Alot depends on the surgeon as well

I agree she was giving me reality of what "could" happen. I am just ready to start this new simi forced chapter of my life. I was planning to stay in my current position for another 12-18 months and use a 401k loan to consolidate some stuff during that time then transition into another position with my current employer if/when it opened up.

There is life after. I have been out since the end of 2018.

I hope that works out for you. No such luck for me. I am done totally.

That really sucks

Got some good news...I have been keeping a close eye on my insurance claims mostly the what I'm going to have to pay and found out my ER visit ,meds ,neck brace ,and some of the more costly CT scans will cost me $0! The other xrays and sub $5k scans are on me...hopefully hit my deductible before shoulder surgery and I'll be in much better shape.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WELL WISHES THOUGHS 🙏 AND ANY DONATIONS MADE!

Talked to the orthopedic surgeon today....nothing he can do as it is nerve damage/trauma causing my shoulder issues. He got upset because it should have been diagnosed correctly weeks ago by neurology.
Hopefully I can get back in to see them this week and see an actual doc and not the PA again....or we'll be on the hunt for a new neurologist.

Beware. Daggum ortho and nuero threw me back and forth for years. It was like they were playing hot potato and I was the potato.

Might consider seeing a PT about shoulder.
My family doc and chiropractor both said that but held off due to the possibility of a tear etc. Now with possible nerve damage the ortho surgeon has warned me against over doing movement /range of motion stuff. I was luck/pushy enough to get an appointment in the morning with Nero. For now I'm doing range of notion on my own using a lawnmower pully hung in a doorway and 550 cord.

Went to Nero today his exact words...hate to play hot potato with you but.... I explained it again to him and he has decided to do an MRI of my neck first to see if they can find any nerve/vertebrae issues...if not then he is going to do nerve testing to find what nerve(s) are damaged and in what way.

See... they know that they do it. They need to contact one another and hash it out.

Talked to my neurologist late yesterday about an MRI he ordered on my neck to attempt to locate an explanation (pinched nerve/cord pressure etc) nothing found....going in next week for nerve testing....looks like it's going to be the auxiliary nerve that is damaged/impeded in some way....I'm going to stop googling stuff after seeing close to a year for full recovery 😅

Had my nerve testing done last week...I highly recommend never having this done. The cattle prod shocking wasn't to bad but once they broke out the needle and started digging around NO THANKS!
My Dr. called today to discuss the results and set me up for a therapy regiment to try and help "jump start" the nerve....I asked about work he said NO way...maybe in three months so hanging up my tools for a bit I guess.

I didn’t want to warn you, but nerve conduction study sucks. I had one for my back and legs, imagine that yours was worse.

As an aside, I provide short and long term disability for my employees. In many/most cases they get more from long term than they do from short. Not certain, but I think it switches over after 3 months. Just something to be aware of.

prayers for your recovery.

Nerve testing is no fun. I've had it done twice because the idiot doing the test didn't log it properly the first time. I can take the shocks pretty well, but the pointy things are the worst of it for me as well. Hopefully they get you squared away soon. Also, don't forget about the tools... I've had to set mine down for most of this year and I'm not happy about it one bit. [emoji53]

I am on short term but didn't "buy-up" and get long-term so Jan 10th is the end if my benefits.....can cover most of "my bills" for Jan so by the end of Jan if nothing has changed and work doesn't/ won't work with me then I'll be changing things up as far as work goes.

Sad to hear of the nerve trouble & I hope the docs & you get a handle on it asap.

Endurance is a virtue. Sometimes, just getting through this day is a tremendous victory! So do that. After a while, you'll find you can handle a lot more than you may have suspected, and that builds the inner strength needed to carry you through the long haul.

Prayer up for you complete recovery.

Haven't updated in a bit...started back to work. Even after my doc signed off they tried to take me out of my truck and put me in the shop. Took my job description to my doc today we discussed it and he signed off.

My doc isn't happy with my range of motion improvements or lack of even after a few months of physical therapy so he has referred me to a surgeon in Baltimore. Fingers crossed I wake up one morning and can move my arm without surgery but doc said I have less than 30 days to make vast improvements. I signed up at the other side of the PT facility that has a pool and a warm water stretching pool.

The pool has been a huge help....work has grounded me to shop only even after my Dr. signed off twice for me to return to full capacity. Should have some more info from John Hopkins in another week or so in regards to any testing they want done prior to seeing the surgeon.

Hopefully you will continue to improve. In 2019 my wife had to have a reverse shoulder replacement. Not easy. Dr. Talley Lassiter with Duke in Knightdale did hers. He’s amazing. Just food for thought.

Glad you are healing up and hope the surgery goes well. Now that it has been awhile, and you have had time to ponder, I wonder if you could tell us in hindsight:

-Is there anything you could have done different that could have prevented the crash?
-Would your choice (and choice for your passenger) of gear and/or how you wore it change?

I had never been on this road so I had slowed to 54. No way to have avoided it without knowing the road is pitched the wrong way....wet didn't help any. The curve gets tighter as you go in....it actually turns into itself twice once you get into it.

Ok.

John Hopkins is an AMAZING hospital. My nerve testing was simple easy and the Dr didn't do any unnecessary needling etc. My neuro doc was very informative and upfront about options and what to do in the meantime.
Surgery is set for the 19th of April...

I was just thinking about this today, glad it is going good for you

I have a standing appointment there 2x per year with ortho. Everyone I've met there are great.

Work has taken me out of my truck....HR has stated when I come back they will have/find a truck...we will see!
Dr's assist seems to think I'll be able to return to work in 3 weeks....

I'm hoping so, if not our parts manager position has opened up unexpectedly. If you wanna go that route. I know past mechanics make the best parts people

Awesome, they could have left the tattoo alone, but now you have reason for more! Glad it is getting over with
