Motorcycle love

Loved this thread!
Always wanted to learn to drive a motorcycle, and this bunch of posts and pics made me look up classes in the area, and I see that it says the class is physically demanding and I must be able to hold up 300 pounds and push a bike 120 feet....not sure I can do that!
Might have to let this part of the bucket list go....
My wife is about 120 lbs and she just took the MSF course this past July, the only grueling thing she had to do was find a way to deal with the heat exhaustion from having to wear long Jean's, helmet and long sleeves in the 90 degree heat lol. The also offer a 3 wheel course if that helps.

I don't like yellow bikes and I'm not crazy about Beemers but it kind of fell into my lap so what the heck.

Nice. I like yellow bikes. A buddy of mine used to have one of those. The only thing I didn't like about his Beemer was that it would make my thumbs go numb after a couple of hours.

P.S. My buddy put over 200k on his R1100S!

I hope she doesn't ride with shorts, tank top and no helmet after getting her license!

Funny this thread popped up today.

I finally dropped my off to get a new rear shoe. This should be the last time I have to pay someone to do it for a while. Next year imma get the stuff to do it myself

Finally get to get back to putting miles on her.

My son & I are putting it back together right now. When we get it going I'll make you a deal on it if you're interested.

Just got this one on the left to replace my old one on the right. Now I just have to to get a Cardo Packtalk Slim to replace my worn out Autocom system.IMG_20181003_182021940.jpg

Just ordered this to go with my new helmet. My Autocom system finally bit the dust. I hope it works as well as my old system did. It will be nice to be wireless.

Would you post up a review when you've had a chance to use it some? I'm looking to upgrade from my Cardo Freedom Rider 2 set and had decided on the PackTalk. I'm interested in the new "slim" but not sure I want to give up the physical buttons. I'm also skeptical of the range on these, and it's important to me because most of our usage is bike-to-bike.

The Slim has buttons too. This guy has one of the best reviews I have seen on the Cardo. I went with the Slim because I don't like the looks of a brick hanging off the side of my helmet. I ordered mine from www.motorcyclecloseouts.com. $269 for the single pack , free shipping and no tax!

anyone looking for a 2002 BMW R1150RT-P cop bike? needs a battery and seat covering.

When I started riding I wore full face helmets. I migrated away to half helmets for the last 8 years. This past summer I started thinking about going back to a full face again for various reasons(safety, tired of getting pelted with gravel, and to make/answer calls on rides). Yesterday on my way to work I got nailed in the cheek, just below my sunglasses, by a rock on I-26 doing about 80. Needless to say I pulled the trigger on a Shoei RF-SR I had been eyeing. Should be here later this week. I also got a decent deal on a SENA 20S Evo a month or two back so I'm pretty excited.

I started with an open face back in 1982 when I was in New Mexico.
Switched to full face after getting hit in the throat at 70mph by a big bug. :D

Just got it today. Installed it in the helmet. It took longer than expected but I was in no hurry. I am not thrilled with the way the battery pack fits on the back of my helmet but maybe it's just the way it is on a RF1200?

I may have to adjust the speakers after I try it out but I will use my custom molded earbuds most of the time. It has to charge for 4 hours before using.

The mic, speakers and the unit itself went on with no problems. I used the boom mic instead of the wire one because you can get it right up against your lips.

I went on the "Cardo Community" on the computer and adjusted all the settings and preset the radio stations. We'll find out tomorrow how it works!

So far, just playing with it in the house, the voice activation doesn't work every time. The buttons take care of that though.

I had to take the speakers out because there isn't enough room to wear my custom earbuds with them in. I found out the hard way! I thought I was going to have to pull the emergency cheek pad release to get the helmet off! It went on pretty easy but I didn't think it was going to come off without tearing up my ears, earbuds, or speakers The large speakers had great sound but needed to run at pretty high volume even for sitting in my living room. Of course I was testing them with 33 db earplugs in. I think they would be fine on the road.

I'll test the mesh bike to bike next weekend. Meeting about 50 LD riders at the Blue Ridge Gathering in Maggie Valley/Waynesville area. I know at least one guy that will have the Slim too.

So far, I think it's going to be a winner.

I went ahead & picked up a new set of the older PackTalk duo yesterday. I'm seeing some of the same issues you mentioned with the slim, low volume and unresponsive voice activation. I'm trying to work through all the settings but now the power is out here....

Still haven't road tested the Cardo Packtalk Slim but hope to do so tomorrow. I've been playing around with the settings and have the voice command working pretty good now.

I road tested the Slim today. Rode about 50 miles around Charlotte. From 80mph on 485 to 35 in the city. FM radio reception sucked. Streaming Pandora from my phone was excellent. Phone calls were excellent also. Voice command worked pretty good. I hope to test the bike to bike next weekend.

My wife & I are up on the BRP testing ours, they're taking some getting used to. So many features, it makes them difficult to operate. I don't know if I'll use them often enough to stay proficient.

I was going to list my old scala rider Q2 set for sale but I think now I'll keep them. They are simple and they just plain work.

After several years... back in the saddle!! Payed for it last week and rode it home from Greensboro Saturday morning.
Feels good. Really missed riding.
94 VFR. Exactly like my last bike that I put many tens of thousands of miles on.

Got back from overseas this weekend and was able to try out my Shoei RF-SR and setup the SENA 20S EVO. Still getting used to wearing a FF again, but the setup is pretty good. My old(~10 year old) HJC felt far heavier than the Shoei so that is a welcomed change.

This morning was my first ride with it. The RF-SR is pretty comfortable, although I had a bit of wind noise over 60MPH on the right side I think it is due to my installation of the SENA speakers. I'll have to adjust the cheek pad at lunch and see if that improves it. There is a bit of exhaust noise from my Rinehart 2:1's but it is far FAR better than the HJC on my old Sportster. Some folks knocked the SENA's speakers, but they seem adequate, down the road I may look at an upgrade but I don't feel it is worth it just yet. Still need to learn all the controls, but music was easy to get to and I'll try out the phone feature on my ride home. Overall I am pretty happy with the purchase, now to get a tinted shield and I'll be all set.

Been there, done that. I don't recommend rides like this to anyone. Lots of riders that I don't want to be around. I went one year and saw a group drinking that morning before the ride! I just find out where the toy drop off is and ride there myself, give them my toy and hit the road. YVMV but I'm a little shell shocked about riding in large groups of people who I don't know. Newbies, show offs and God knows who else is there.

I did the T4T in WS about 8 years ago...hated it. Had at least one accident (which was rider on rider) and other very unsafe practices (ie: a member of, IIRC, the Nubian Queens had her digital camera on her right wrist, so as we're going down the highway she lifts that hand up, situates the camera, takes a pic or two, and then resumes throttle...after losing about 25mph. I was two or three people behind her)

Im done with that nonsense.

I hate when a great cause is ruined by the idiots like that
