Was looking for a vintage barometer and came across some cheap casio watches that give altitude, pressure, and temp for $40. Any reason not to use something like that for calculations?

The question would be accuracy and ease of use. Without those parameters being known, I'd pass. There are some very good standalone units that do all of that very quickly and accurately. You've spent tons on the rifle, what's a little bit more?

I had one of the Pathfinders. To use it in the way you are talking about, I had to wear it off body, and the temperature took 3 hours to adjust down to the ambulant . Its sucks

To do density altitude "the root of your question" I use my Suunto Traverse Alpha its legit. Used it in both mountain ranges east and west for angle shooting classes within the last 3 years and it works
