Many of us grew up listening to Motown /Soul music as well as Rock& Roll. So I thought I would post this. DETROIT — Aretha Franklin, the undisputed "Queen of Soul" who sang with matchless style on such classics as "Think," ''I Say a Little Prayer" and her signature song, "Respect," and stood as a cultural icon around the globe, has died at age 76 from advance pancreatic cancer. RIP Aretha

Definitely.

So, asking from a 80's baby perspective: what was her influence on your generation?
Just great music. Like James Brown. White young people were listening to lots of R&B and "Soul" back in the late sixties early seventies.

The Supremes, The Drifters, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops... and the sound wasn't limited to black artists either.

Kinda ironic. Today is the anniversary of Elvis’ death.
King of Rock and Roll and the Queen of soul died on the same date in August.

As a "younger" member said he didn't care for that style of singing ..He has no idea what he missed. Soul groups like the ones already mentioned plus groups like the Marvellettes, Martha & the Vandellas ,Jackson 5,Box Tops, The Temptations Sam& Dave ,The Spinners .I could go on and on. Also Rock groups like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Rolling Stones ,The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, Led Zepelin, The Who and lets not forget ELVIS and The BEATLES. Music like this is what influenced my generation not rap and crap bands like today. Todays bands cant compare to the "legends" of the 50's ,60's and 70's. That was GREAT music

Funny, when I read that title, I went to that song in my head.

Rest in peace.

Well, I really only care for one style/genre of music..

Late 80's-early 90's George Strait..
There is nothing wrong with George Srait, Hell I love "old country " music but the New country has to much rap crap in it for me. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to any kind of music and I have lots of it . But the only rap you will find is a song from Blondie

I read this on the news today and the first thing that came to my mind was.....Huh, I honestly thought she died like 20 years ago.....oh well, I’m gonna continue on carrying out the plan of the day.

I grew up under the influence of Aretha and many others like her but she was the Queen. She usually did it first and did it the best. Truly a pioneer that was one of the one's that "whitey" screwed out of millions of dollars in the early years, just like Elvis and Col Tom.
Aretha may have left the earthly bounds but she's holding God's hand as we speak..... R.I.P.........

Ya mean ya ain't into "Bro" country???.....me neither.

I just realized that today is the 41st anniversary of Elvis's death . Two greats in the music world that both started singing Gospel in Church as kids. Elvis went to Black churches because he said the music inspired him .Now they share the same day of the entrance to the heavenly chorus where so many great voices can be heard..

RIP

But on a side note:

She would plan a show at Cary Amphitheater every-other year. I would get tix for my mom. Then she would cancel it. I think soon as he found out it was outside, she got "sick"! Got me twice on that before I said FU.
