She was actually my great aunt’s twin sister, but I’ve always considered her my aunt because, until my aunt passed six years ago, they were inseparable. She’d turned 100 October 1st and was of incredibly sound mind. She even drove to the hair dresser weekly up until a couple years ago. She and her sister were two of the kindest, most gentle, and humorous ladies I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing, from The Greatest Generation. I’d always suspected her body would fail before her mind and this sadly was the case. She fell and broke her hip last Monday and never really emerged from the surgery. I’m grateful to have spent time with her and learned of a time gone by. I’m fortunate To have known a Southern Lady in every sense of the word. Godspeed, Aunt Lena.
