My new many-purpose gun....

@Millie , for what it's worth. I think you made a great decision. You wanted something that would work and would work for a long time. Even most of the Glock haters will admit that they work reliably. And, even though Glocks are like pine trees in that they all look the same, you have to post a picture. It's the law!
I put the pic in the "what I bought today" thread.

I was putting 11 (?) in something at some point, but at any rate, whatever it was, it lost the race.....you guys know I have trouble recalling all the gun names. The range guy said it's an M&P, no Shield, 9mm. Maybe there's more than one? It was nice though, but the Glock fit my needs better.

I think you just wanted a g lock!!

Smith & Wesson transmits their apparent internal confusion to the market. They offered what they called the M&P Compact 9mm which had capacity of 12+1. Later, they introduced two other versions (slightly different barrel lengths) that they call Compact 2.0. Those both hold 15+1. They now offer all three (the original Compact and both flavors of 2.0). Maybe you shot the original Compact. Was it a smaller than the G19 but bigger than the Shield?

Definitely bigger than the Shield, but not sure if it was smaller than the G19, if so it was just by a tiny bit and I didn't really notice the difference.
I actually liked the Shield too, size-wise, for concealment, but you know my crazy idea of "one gun, many uses"...lol...

It's neither here nor there. I was just curious.

Sounds like you did a thorough job narrowing it down. I'm glad you like the G19 and hope it works well for you.
Definitely can't go wrong with capacity!

I told you months ago to get a Glock because of it's simple operation.I personally don't care for Glocks at all but I carry one every day because they are dependable and work when you need them to. I dislike them so much that I have 8 of them, sold 2 of the 10 I had. Still have 4 Glock 19s,3 Glock17s and a 23.Be prepared they do tend to multiply

Everybody and their cousin told me to get a Glock, but until recently, I wasn't able to shoot any of them! Hence the not getting one till yesterday.....

(Guns do seem to multiply, but you guys warned me about this early on, so it's not a huge surprise that mine have been breeding like bunnies...it's a good thing I like guns!)

It's cleaned and lubed, ready for its first range day tomorrow! I'm very excited about it!! (This must be how "normal" women feel about shoes??)

I'm personally not a fan of Glocks...but I used a Glock 22 for years. If they can survive being a duty weapon and knocked around, being rained on, puked on, covered in mud, exposed to fire, covered in sand and dirt, and then not cleaned for 3 or 4 years, it's a solid choice in my book. Congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy range day today. Feeling a little jealous right now.

Any gun with a 19 or 11 in it should he good to go
The gun with "19" in it did great on its first range day! LOL.
The gun with "11" in it has to be sent back to be fixed, but so life goes....I'll have to treat it a bit more carefully in the future, I guess.

Don't put oil in the striker channel Millie. That is the one major weakness of the Glock and it will have light strikes and people will be suggesting you sell it and buy a HiPoint or convert it to 38 super or some other non-sense.

Congrats on your new do -it-all gun!

I'll have to go get the manual from the car to even be able to know what a "striker channel" is. It's sweet of you to think I might know this, though! Lol.
I lubed it as the manual said to....what can I say??

And why is it just now, after I bought one, that I'm hearing about this "weakness" in a Glock??? Lol. I thought these guns were supposed to be tough, and keep on going no matter what!

I'm just going to pretend I didn't read your reply, and carry on with my life, in hopes the g19 will actually do it all!!! LMAO

I'm sorry you're jealous, and you can come shoot my Glock any time you want to! LoL. Are you near Fayetteville? We can have a range day any time you want to.

I did have a great 1st day with the new gun, thanks! I'm loving it so far.

Well I'm jealous anytime someone gets a new gun other than myself. But more jealous of the range day :D

No I'm down in Rock Hill, SC, and work in Charlotte. Fayetteville is a bit of a haul from here, but maybe I can swing it one of these days. I'll take any chance I can get to put holes in paper.

I know I’ll get fried for this but Glocks are dirty girls and don’t need to be cleaned that often. My Gen 2 G17 went over 2 years with nothing but a quick wipe down with a silicone rag and 4 drops of CLP as directed by Glock ...

and never bitched once. Again they are like beer google girls ... what they lack in looks they make up for in action.

You just let me know....I love range days more than almost anything else in life!

In the meantime, go hit your local range and get that gun therapy!

This one will get plenty of action, I'm sure, once the hot weather goes....

Millie, I mean 2 years of use not just sitting around ... back then that would have been easily over 2500 rounds with monthly drills and such.

No, I got that you meant use! Lol. My new gun will not sit around as long as I can buy ammo. I love to shoot and I shoot a lot, but now it's hot and I hate the heat....shooting will be cut way down till cooler weather hits....then I'll be back up to 3x a week for 3-6 boxes of ammo each time, like I've been doing all these months! (This might be why I need to cut down....lots of ammo has been shot the last 6 months!)

We just installed a shed for you. Should have fans going soon.
You're the sweetest man ever.....lol.

Let me know when the fans are in, I'll come test them out!
I need to show you my new and very rare and unique gun...it's like no other in the Universe, you'll see! LOL.

Glocks are reliable, but not very ergonomic, as far as I am concern. Did you try the CZ P10C? Good ergos and they fit in glock holsters.
I did try a CZ something at B.Oaks....sexy!!
It was fantastic, but I got a Glock that's also fantastic and I'm getting used to carrying it. Lol.

Anyway, I'm done with the gun buying for a while, once I get the .45 out of layaway. Next up is a .22, but that could be several months away.

(Stop tempting me with the CZ!)

Actually, you can get a 22LR upper for your Glock(despite it not being ergonomic ;)). That way you can practice cheaply.

I might already have an idea of what I want in a .22. I shot one a couple of weeks ago.

Millie, God LOVE ya girl, but BG's (Bad Guys) are out more often in warm weather than cold. Keep up your practice. Even if you are shooting less rounds. Keep up the good work!!Practice the the six"P's". If you don't know what that is....ask Battery Oaks Billy. I'm sure he knows!;)

They always told me I could tear up a steel anvil with a rotten banana..... I've never broke a Glock.
Maybe you have not tried the right banana on the Glock. ;)

Key word: should.
One of the guns that kicked off this mess had both 19 and 11 in it

Simplified version of a famous quote: a 1911 has a failure = just breaking in; a Hi Point has a failure = POS.

Jokes apart, someone I knew bought a RIA 1911 in 9mm and also had issues with it on his first 2-3 sessions. He followed my advise and immediately sent it back. It was returned a couple of weeks later and he claimed it felt better than before and he could not make it fail since. Now you have a reliable gun, send the 1911 back and allow the manufacturer make it better. Then shoot it again and see if you wan to keep it or send it away. I still think that a full size 1911 in 9mm is one of the best guns to teach people how to shoot.

I'm going to send it in soon, and hope it comes back all good. It's my favorite gun of all time (that I own)!

Now that I am used to Glock everything else feels weird.
