...or I just got lucky.

I have been wanting an inexpensive 22 lr since middle of last year. After talking to folks and gun shops, reading articles and watching videos the internet I was centered on three. the Ruger Wrangler, Taurus TX22, and the Kel Tec P17. I finally decided I wanted to get the Kel Tec P17. Of course I waited too late as the administration changed and a buying frenzy occurred so they were none to be found. Unless you went on Gun Broker and wanted to get in a bidding war and pay a hugely inflated price, $400+ for pistol that had an MSRP of $169. Wasn't going for that.

So I waited and waited and got on "Notify me when in stock" mailing lists on several gun sites. I also went to many local and chain gun stores multiple times to see if they had one. FINALLY, this past Friday I happen to walk into Sportsman's Warehouse at Tanger Outlet just looking for some shotgun ammo and there was a black P17 on the shelf. So I elbowed my way passed the sparse shoppers and hovered over the counter until I got the salesman's attention. Got the P17 in my hands and ran through my drills - check the sight picture, dry fire (with permission), mag releasing, working the slide, etc. It is light weight! The price was spot on the MSRP - $169.00. So I bought it and didn't even ask the wife. Just texted her that I was buying something for myself.

Brought it home and been looking it over good, basic disassembly, a light lube job, cycle some ammo, etc. One odd thing I discovered is that one of the three mags (16 rd capacity) it comes with would not load more than 12 rounds, the other two would. So I disassemble the mag and find there are two followers in the mag, one stacked on the other. Hmmm, human error at the factory? So I remove one follower and all is well.

Hope to get to shoot it next week and need to find a holster.

Way to go, patients does pay off. I am doing the same on something I am searching for too. Happy for ya, enjoy!

I put my email address in Grab A Gun's wait list for a Springer XDME Precision 9mm probably 4 or 5 months ago. They gmailed me like Monday. Bought it and they shipped it same day and I had it 2 days later. Never gave their wait list or anybody else's much hope but damn if it didnt work.

An error with a keltec? No way! That's just their way of packaging an extra follower with it, in case you need one.

:)

(I own a handful of keltecs, I'm a fan in general).

Whoo Hooo! Free mag follower!

I did basically the same with the Tx16. Several mail and wait lists.

Congratulations on your new pistol.

It looks good on you! I've had great luck with kygunco.com with their back in stock alerts.

Update on my plinker. I will make this short. I decide to disassemble beyond the recommended breakdown and tried to take off the slide cover for a good cleaning after shooting dirty bulk ammo. The slide cover screws were locked down so tight that I stripped the hex head. After email chatting with Kel tec customer service (and they were great BTW) I ended up cutting a slot in the screws deep enough to fit a flat head screwdriver. I got them out after a small struggle and proceeded with a good cleaning and lube of the bolt, firing pin, extractor, etc. The screws were caked with threadlock. Kel Tec sent me two new screws AND a new slide cover at no charge. The new screws are torx head, which I prefer. All better now.

Kel Tec customer service was 100%

congrats on getting your gun, it still amazes me how many guys have to ask wife if they can buy a gun .
Me to. Wife has her money, I have my money. If we want something we save up and buy what we want. I've been saving for a new S&W J frame 22 LR revolver. Found one today . Will pick up tomorrow or Monday. She buys clothes and shoes I buy guns and ammo. Did I ask her if I could buy it? Hell no. Nuff said.

I was gonna tell mine I was going to Lowes today. It was true - Lowes Food to pick up a new popper! She never missed me, so I didn't have to tell the truth!
